First quarter 2010 results are in!

General Motors Company today announced its first quarter 2010 results, marked by revenue of $31.5 billion and operating income of $1.2 billion. Net income attributable to common stockholders was $0.9 billion, resulting in earnings per share on a diluted basis of $1.66.

GM Foundation Donates $70,000 to United Negro College Fund to Assist Deserving Students

GM has recently announced two donations to the Untied Negro College Fun, or UNCF, totalling $70,000. The donation consists of a $50,000 donation to UNCF’s Campaign for Emergency Student Aid and a $20,000 donation toward scholarship and operating support for UNCF.

GM renaming Service and Parts Operations to Customer Care and Aftersales

General Motors has recently announced that it will be changing the name used to describe the ACDelco, Goodwrench, and GM Performance Parts division. Formerly “Service and Parts Operation”, GM is changing the name to “Customer Care and Aftersales” to better reflect GM’s commitment to customer satisfaction.

February Combined Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac Sales Up 32 Percent

Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac dealers in the U.S. reported sales of 138,849, up a combined 32 percent compared to February 2009. These results were driven by the continued strong growth of new GM crossovers and passenger cars.

OnStar showing Chevy engines and transmissions approaching 100 percent reliability in January

In the month of January, 99.3 percent of the 1.8 million Chevrolet vehicles enrolled in OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics reported that there were no issues with the key components of their engine and transmission systems.

Do Ed Whitacre and General Motors “get” cars?

The short answer is no. Whitacre has self-admittedly stated he’s not a car guy. What Whitacre does know is mergers and acquisitions. Aside from figuring out how to deal with Saab, it doesn’t look like GM really needs to be buying up companies. Ed is a numbers guy and if that makes you a bit nervous, it probably should. GM’s other “numbers guy” was Rick Wagoner.

Total Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac Sales Up 30 Percent

U.S. dealers for GM’s brands – Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac – reported retail sales of 102,420, up 3 percent compared to January 2009, and 145,098 total sales (up 30 percent). These results were driven by the continued strong growth of new GM crossovers and passenger cars.

DETROIT – GM dealers in the U.S. reported 160,996 retail deliveries in December – a 7 percent increase compared to last year, and a 50 percent increase over last month.
