Tailgate

diannabill

Personally I didn't like the very large gold bowtie on my tailgate. I toyed with the idea of painting it black, but it's such a large emblem, I thought it would look better completely gone.

Since it was cold outside when I did this, I used a standard household hair blow dryer and warmed up the emblem (and the adhesive behind it). I took some fishing twine (but I think dental floss works better) and placed it behind the bowtie and "sawed" through the adhesive. Once I got most of the emblem sawed through, it popped off pretty easily. Most of the adhesive came off with the bowtie--maybe I got lucky, but I just used my fingertip and pushed it around so I could pull it off. I used mineral spirits and lightly rubbed the stubborn remnants of the adhesive and it came off easily. A quick light waxing of the area, and there's not a trace.

I'm not sure how much or how quickly paint fades, so I did this as soon as the weather cooperated.
