What's The Hp Difference Between 4.8 And 5.3

Does anybody have the numbers for a stock 4.8 and 5.3 engine?

 

Does the 5.3 engine take a build better than 4.8? more rewarding I mean?

 

I was thinking of building a 5.3 with just a mild cam and heads, but was just wondering... the 5.3 should bolt right in shouldn't it?? All the wiring stays the same up to the computer? Then can I just get an ECU for a 5.3?

 

And does the year of the motor matter? The truck I have is a 2000 with the 4.8. could I put a 2003 5.3 in??

Not sure, but this much I do know, the 2003+ trucks are "Drive-by-Wire" (No throttle cable).

They are drop in. All the wiring is the same. The internal difference betewwn the two is the stoke. Also, depending on which 5.3 you get, the heads(iron or aluminum). If your gonna swap it oug, go 6.0L :dunno:

So you're saying that you can put a drive-by-cable TB on a DBW motor? Sweet!

 

And I agree on the 6.0, if you're going to go through the trouble of pulling the motor out, do it right and put the biggest motor in that you can. :lol:

:D Wow, I did'nt know GM went with DBW ! Wonder if the sticky throttle is still an issue.

 

 

The cable had nothing to do w/ the sticky throttle condition....they redesigned the PCV system to correct that issue.

I know it wasn't the cable, that's why I said "throttle" and not cable, or linkage. Mine was sticky and I cleaned it by cleaning the sticky gunk off the butterfly and cavity of the throttle body. It is starting to feel sticky/catchy again. Did they redesign a PCV system for 99-02 trucks? I'm planning to modify my PCV system if there isn't a replacement fix.

Thanks, I read this old forum posting here as it was the first thing that came up on a search for that bulletin. Sounds like I'll need a fixed PCV valve and someone who can set the TPS voltage. Seems that the PCV valve is changed, hole plugged, TPS voltage adjusted but, I'm wondering what the PCV valve gets hooked up to since the port on the throttle body is plugged?

4.8's and 5.3's are not performance engines, just way too small.

 

Go for displacement if you're going to spend that kind of money. The factory 6.2 has 403HP, well over a hundred more than you currently have.

 

But that's not the most cost effective powerplant out there.

 

I'd get a healthy used 6.0 LQ4 and the L92 heads and intake set from GM. Bolt on those heads and intake along with a mild cam, say .550 lift, 220 degrees duration @50, on a 115-116 centerline. That motor ought to make well over 500 HP, idle well and work well in a heavy vehicle.

The PCV valve hooks up to the same location as it does now. The hole in the throttle plate is what gets plugged up w/ the rubber plug.
