20HP difference. I'd bet nobody could tell by driving a truck which engine it has (295 to 315). Same exact engine architecturally but no godawful AFM.

Sorry, Zembonez... I could EASILY identify which engine was in a truck between the 4.8L/5.3L, and the AFM is exactly the reason why. Now, if the 5.3L truck had AFM disabled, it would be hard to tell, but the AFM has such a significant effect on the drivability of the vehicle that it's hard NOT to notice.

I was only speaking from a horsepower point of view. We all know how shitty AFM is. You could not GIVE me a truck with AFM.

One of the nice things about an extended cab is the ability to store stuff in the back and have it locked up. And with EC rigs like my 08, the rear doors open 175 degrees which makes it real handy for loading gear in the rear. My truck has a rear 60/40 bench so you can even stow some stuff and still have some available seating if needed.

A longer wheelbase will help with the ride and there is also additional load carrying capacity along with more trailering capacity.

With your going off for training, what real need will you have for a POV outside of getting to a training base and coming back? Is the USMC going to give you any free time where you have a chance to use a POV? You might want to find out if that first 6 months will give you any free time at all.

I get 25 mpg! In all seriousness I get great gas mileage with my 5.3 with AFM. 18 mpg over the life of my truck and I don't drive it like a grandpa either.

i have a RCSB z71 and absolutely love it, i went from a CCLB to this and would never go back again. you're buying a truck for yourself, not for who you can drive around. and you would have plenty of locking storage if you add a box in the bed or a hardshell cover.
