I have a 2009 extended cab 4X4 LT-1 with the 5.3. It only has 2,400 miles on it. Pretty much every time I attempt to fuel the truck the pump shuts of constantly and I can usually only get 3/4 of a tank in it. The more pressing issue for me is twice now the truck has given me trouble when starting it up. Usually I just turn the key and release and the truck continues to turn over for a second or two, then fires up, normally. Twice, about two weeks apart, when I turned the key and released the truck didnt continue to turn over like normal. It acted like my wifes 2004 durango with a "standard" ignition and I had to hold it to start it, for a good 5 seconds and then it sounded like it was skipping upon start up and ran rough for approx 1 min. What is going on with this truck? I am no mechanic, but it would seem to me that both issues are possibly related to a fuel problem. GM is giving me the run around saying they cannot get the truck to do either issue for them, and there is no codes in truck or anything in their database about other silverados with these problems. Its back in the shop now and will sit there until monday until someone can look at it. Oh and my ebony seats get covered in lint in about 2 days, like magnets. I paid cash for this truck and honestly I like my truck, but with these kinds of things already happening, I dont even want it. I, like anyone need to be able to rely on my truck. At this point I am disgusted. To add to it, The service Dept at Tracy Chevrolet in Plymouth MA where I bought it has treated me with a condescending tone as if I'm making this stuff up. I traded a 2007 Toyota on this truck thinking I was doing the right thing in buying American again, in these screwed up times we are living in. I traded a perfectly good, dependable vehicle that never had one issue in 40,000 miles, for one that has been in the shop 3 times in under 3,000 miles.
Sorry about the long winded 1st post, and the bit of a rant ladies and gents, but I'm not happy. mad.gif

I'm not sure I follow your sarcasm? The truck failed to start w/o holding the key for an extended time and then it started up like a piece of junk, stammering, skipping whatever the term would be for it. That is normal to you for $30,000!? Its unacceptable IMO. Its a machine and it should work right when its new shouldnt it? Thanks for the constructive help.

I won't address the fuel issues because there are a lot of variables as to why the pump could be shutting off early. I guess these GM-truck.com goofballs aren't smart enough being american truck buyers to have had this issue lol.gif , but here is a Toyota thread that at least explains it:

I also know (yea, I know something despite what others might say on here crazy.gif ) that these trucks seem emptier than they really are when you head to the gas station. 3/4 of a tank is about 20 gallons which is a normal fill up for me.

Anyone an expert on the starting problems?

give it a chance to shake out a few issues before you give up on the truck. i got my 09 with leather after dealing with the lint issues in my 07. everthing else you mentioned can be corrected. if the dealer doesn t correct it to your satisfaction call the 1800 customer service.

A lot of the "lint magnet" owners are buying seat covers. Wet Okole is one of the best.

My 08 did the gas pump shutoff routine right out of the dealer a block away. I tried two different stations and finally got the tank full after fartin around with it. It's been a little finicky at times, but seems to have gotten better. I'm suspicious it's the fully closed system that vents thru a charcoal canistor or a valve to the intake that is restrictive. I really don't know. But it seems to be an issue with many of these trucks to one degree or another.

I think the point he was trying to make was that intermittent problems aren't that easy to troubleshoot in one visit to the dealership. At least you have the problem documented now and if it returns take it back in again. That's how I managed to get replacement intermediate steering shafts on my 02 for many years even after the warranty was up. Good luck...

As an ex-mechanic, I truly understand your frustration. BUT as a mechanic by trade, intermittent issues are the DEBIL in a shop. Put your big boy pants on, gather up your patience, and give the shop the benefit of a doubt. It always works that way in the fact that intermittent issues take time to diagnose and figure out. I don't know how many vehicles I've looked at that had intermittent problems that I could not get to duplicate.

My last problem child (2009 Grand Voyager) had an intermittent electrical issue. In this case, the issue would only occur 1 time within 3-4 weeks. I had the vehicle for 2 weeks before I could duplicate the customers concern. It took driving the vehicle several times everyday before it started to act up.

My 03 would run like crap, like it was out of gas, after first start every once in a while. I chalked it up to stuff happens. I would have to say that in the 6 1/2 years that I owned the truck, it happened 5-6 times.


Settle down and let them do their job. Getting upset isn't going to fix anything.

I guess its the auto shut off of the pump. Its as if the truck is full of fuel, yet its not. Thats about as straight forward as I can describe it. I have a video of it doing it on the wifes Blackberry, just trying to figure out how to get it donload onto the Mac, and then I'll post a link here for you guys to see. As far as only getting 3/4 of tank, It will only take about 18-19 gallons. So its not the gauge, cause the truck holds 22 gallons I believe... It clearly has a defective part that I hope they will find and replace. I really like my truck, I'm just very frustrated for the money I spent and then get this kind of crap.

I am settled down. Just frustrated and DO NOT like being talked to like I'm stupid by some A-hole who prob makes $10 bucks an hour because he cant work a real job. These people should be kissing customers you know whats IMO. Especially after GM received how much Tax payers $? I'm going to give them there fair shot at fixing it. Then if its not resolved I'll be going the lemon law route, plain and simple.

That vid was awesome! I miss my accent! Wasnt as Southie as yours though haha. Anyway, mine did that once for a min or two. It has also done the starting thing too. Just in case I turn the key, wait for all lights to go off, then turn and hold until it starts. I would show the dealership that vid, or maybe make a G rated one and see what they say. That would def annoy the hell out of me as well as the starting problem. Good luck and GO PATS!

Lol, Thanks for the info man. So mine isnt the only one doing it. Why did GM go to this electronic type of starting method anyways? Gotta do a little bit of video editing and then bring the vid in the morning.
