Hey Mike, chill out. chillpill.gif

I wasn't calling YOU a whiny bitch, as you are not the OP of a whiny bitch oil change thread, are you? I was referring to the OP's of all of the threads that do whine about them. Some of which carried over into this thread (see post #9, the one I was replying to).

OK, perhaps I did misunderstand whom you were directing this towards, it has been a rather long week of working around 75+ hours, my brain is a little tired biggrin.gif

Oh, quit yer whining! lol.gif ]

you'll also need an adapter fitting in addition to the valve, at least mine did--may have changed in the last two years since I installed mine...

I use ramps and a little aluminum foil to redirect the oil away from the skid plate.

I pump mine out through the dipstick tube. It keeps me from crawling under the truck and getting my hands dirty.

easy fix, fumoto valve.....you just have to allow time to drain it though..

Is there a point to the fumoto valve when the oil filter is the messiest part?

I can stick on a scrap piece of hose on the end & just open it up---eliminates half the mess

I forget which member mentioned it, but i tried it yestaerday on an 04 yukon 8.1 i got the filter wrench up in there and loosened before it started to drip and just put a grocery store plastic bag around it and then spun it off in the bag, so far so good no mess. Thanks for the advice

My driveway is sloped, so the oil only hits the skidplate a bit on the 99. The filter makes a bit of a mess, but shit, it's an oil change not a heart transplant. I try to remember to put on some disposable nitrile gloves and keep some papertowels handy.

I use to bend up beer can cut open by bending a little tab that is about the height of the distance between the pan and skidplate and the rest extended out past the skidplate. The tab propped up the front of the makeshift drain plate. But now I drink beer from a bottle..... lol.gif A little oil gets on the skidplate and I just wipe it a bit. Once or twice a year, I Simple Green the engine and use the local spray carwash to hose off everything on top and underneath. WTF, like wattsis name said, it ain't brain surgery. If you make a mess, go to the local carwarsh or squirt it with some soap and hose it.

My son-in-law just changed my oil at his work, he does it on a lift. He keeps a old rubber floor mat handy to put above skid plate so it will go into the drain funnel on the barrel or drum. He takes care of all our vehicles, nice to have him around. plowking

I bought a 2500hd this past summer and have changed the oil twice. I wish I would have found this forum sooner because the past 2 oil changes have been horrible (if not horrendous).

I figured out a way to funnel the oil past the skid plate on my second attempt but I'm having a tough time finding a way for the oil to not splatter all over the exhaust pipe (perhaps ramps would help - but I'm not sure as it seems to be right in front of the oil drain). I bought myself a huge plastic tub (that one would use to put stuff in and store under a bed with) because in my first attempt I simply used an old wash basin (which was clearly not big enough to capture the jet of oil backwards, the spray off the exhaust, and the drips coming off the exhaust! It's almost comical how bad my oil changes are!

I contained most of the oil this time with the plastic tub but I'm thinking there might be some other tips out there that I am missing.

Are there any tips on how to get the filter off without oil spilling all over my hands? With my old GM van once the oil pan was empty not much oil poured out of the oil filter drain. With this one it gushes and pours all around the filter as I am trying to unscrew it even after emptying the drain-pan. Is there something else I am missing?

I'm about due for my first oil change on my 2500HD. I've noticed the skid plate is positioned to where it is blocking a straight shot down for the oil filter and the drain plug and it is going to be somewhat tricky to not have oil go all over the place and into the skid plate.Anybody got any tricks for a no mess oil change on these 6.0 HD trucks? Thanks.

I screwed around for over a years worth of oil changes. Im not worried when I do it at work but spilling oil all over my concrete driveway pisses me off. So, I finally got pissed and pulled out the sawzall. No more worries. The skid plate extends way out into mid air doing nothing for the last couple of inches anyway. Just cut it the hell off and be done with it. And besides...are any of us going rock crawling any time soon? In 200,000 miles youll never put a scratch in the skid plate.. never even know its there accept when it spills oil all over. I cut less than 2" off the tail end where it has a bit of a radius and squared it up. Even took a file and smoothed it out.
