Hey guys!!! I need some help for a silly idea i had this week.... Since i've had (and still have) some everlasting problebs with my Chevy's 305 cid engine and one of those probs really might end up with opening it, wich i really don't want to since i don't think it's worth it, i planed to convert my truck to the good old bullet proof CARBURETOR recipe! BUT, while being at it, better do it for something REALLY outstanding, so i figured that turning my truck into a nice SS396 would be pretty cool. BUT (again! lol.gif ), real 1967-69 396's are a real pain in the ass to find and the ONLY 3 i've found on my side would be even more expensive all in all than my truck itself when i bought it. MY SOLUTION: CONVERTING A 6.5 L DIESEL BLOCK!!! I've looked at severa pics of the block and realized that the mechanical gas pum and even the distributor openings are already on the block and the glow plug holes almost look like spark plug diameter!!! MY PROBLEM: wich 4bbl intake should i get in order to fit with the 6.5 stock heads and what cam should i choose to get nice sound and power?? Also, is there any ways to modify the timing chain case to patch up the injection pump's hole??

Any suggestions??

Here are a few pics that almost tells me that i'm not all that crazy!! biggrin.gif

Is there any ways i could use some kind of ''adaptor'' for the spark plugs or is there any other type of heads i could put on (like original '60s 396 heads or maybe even 400 or 454 heads)???

The glow plug holes could be sized right with Heli-Coils if they are too big.

HOWEVER, I also will burst your bubble.

Gasoline engines are designed for horsepower with big bores and short strokes. Diesels long stroke and smaller bores (Yes, I know not always).

There in my opinion would also be airflow issues with the diesel design. Plus, I think the compression ratio will need to be reduced.

But hey, if you gt the money and want to take a chance, go for it. We are waiting to hear the results.

Gentlemen,

You can do it, money has to be no object. Lots of problems and the result is uncertain. They convert diesel busses to run on natural gas all the time, but to a city money is no abject. You might check the diesel to gas websites that supply the cities.
