I am looking for any help/opinions on late model Blazer and Jimmy (?) models. I want to get my wife in one if reviews are favorable.I would like 4wd. 2000-2002 is about where I would be looking.
Thanks Mike in Joisey

Solid vehicles overall but they do have their quirks.
The 4wd s-series mosels have notorious trouble with the oil filter bypass lines leaking, even when they aren't very old.New lines generally run between $350-400 if memory serves me correctly.
Seat handles are made out of cheap pot metal coated in plastic and are very bad about breaking. You can generally avoid breakage by sitting up in the seat to take pressure off of the mechanism before attempting an adjustment.
You may also not get terriffic gas mileage but I'm unsure on that one since I don't have one and haven't really heard much from those who do own them.

2 major problems with our 2000 LT 4wd blazer at about 28K miles
1. 4wd went out (some tcc module)
2. Front drivers side wheel bearing toast
both happened out of warranty :nonod:

Do you know what exactly is causing this problem? I've had an oil leak since purchasing my 2000 GMC Jimmy (2door 4WD), and I've had it in for this oil leak about 3 times under warranty. My warranty will be running out in about 3 months so this is really getting to me.
Now, for the originaly poster, like I stated above, I have a 2000 model. Overall its not too bad with the exception of my oil leak. I've taken it offroading, and the only complaints are the lack of height stock, and the tires were mediocre. With better tires, I would say that it would be very capable. The reason I didn't get a lift yet is because being IFS, locally only a 5" lift is available, and its way expensive. Not something I can justify yet.

It seems to be a problem with where the lines hook into the fittings.
I know that standard procedure is to replace the entie assembly so you may want to trace the lines to see if the dealership is just trying to reseal them around the fittings. If that is the case,I would firmly suggest to the dealership that they replace the lines since you have already had your Blazer in there multiple times for the same problem.

I had a 1996 GMC Jimmy. Never had my oil lines leak. Did have to replace the four wheel drive switch (Warranty), also had the power steering resovoir leak (warranty) and at 98,000 miles a fuel injector leak (out of warranty). But that was it. My truck was solid.
I now have a 2002 GMC Envoy. By far the best vehicle I have ever owned 10,000 miles. I would say with the Envoy and the Trailblazer, the only differnece is, you get more standard equipment with the Envoy, for more money, or you have to select more options on the Chevy, but comes with a lower base price. The Envoy is a little more "high end" then the TB, but that just has to do with the marketing. I know if I go to www.gmbuypower.com. Build an Envoy and TB the same, the price is almost identical.
But believe me when I tell you there is a HUGE difference between the Jimmy / Blazer and the Envoy / Trailblazer. The new trucks are miles ahead of the old S-series.
