Trucksters, my '98 GMC Suburban SLT has wet carpet on the front passenger side near the door sill after heavy rain (Ernesto). Looking for guidance in finding source of leak. It seems to go as far forward as the AC blower housing, but is not much more forward than that. Is there a drain I need to clear? Appreciate any help in advance. Thanks!

There is a drain for the A/C condensate fron the HVAC housing it should come out of the fire-wall just above the frame rail. There is usually a rubber hose attached to it that looks like its pinched on the end. You should be able to remove the hose and clean it. If the plastic drain is clogged also you will need to clean that also, but be carefull not to bush anything pointy too far into the tube. You dont want to poke a hole into anything important banghead.gif

It's worth vacuuming out all the crud beneath the cowling vents. Mine always fills with tree crap (pine needles, little twigs, bird s**t) and eventually won't drain any more. Sometimes it's easier to wait till it's dry and then hit the vents with compressed air to blow it all out.

If the drain is free (bet it isn't, though) there could be a leak around the windshield seal too.

Check that none of the screws are missing that hold the external cowling grill on,those holes go right through and will let water in

I have a 99 Chevy Surburban and my father has a 99 GMC both had the same problem. We found a bad windshield seal on both had them replaced @ glass shop and fixed the problem. You might want to look under the carpet for signs of rust, my dad's must of leaked for awhile because I had to do some patch work to floor.

Check the screws holding down the plastic grill just in front of the windshield - passenger side. The screws go through the sheet metal and if it has become loose or stripped, it allows water to drip down the air intake channel and into the interior. A good fix for it is remove the wiper arms, remove the plastic cowling and then clean the area well and reinstall with some type of sealant or RTV.
