I have a 1990 454 SS which I am swapping in a 600+ horse 496. Now I know the stock motor mounts will not hold up so here is where my questions are. Number one has any one on here swapped in poly or solid mounts on a 1500 pickup and if so where did they get em from. Number two I tried to take out the old motor mounts today and there are nuts inside the crossmember of the frame which are impossible to get on unless you remove the lower control arm. It just doesnt make sense to me and maybe I am missing something really obvious. Thanks in advance for the help.

I know on the motor mounts that there is a space to get a wrench up in the frame to get to those nuts. They had to get them there somehow. Unless of course the frame has been modified and the holes were sealed. Have you looked to see if those bullet style mounts will work with the truck? Other than that, I'm not much help.

hey slow454ss i had a 89 Cheyenne that i swapped out the 4.3 to a 5.7 and i DID have to drop the lower control arm to get to the mount bolts. I know stupid design but not real hard to do, did both in about 1 hour or so. And i just went with stock mounts. But with what your going to do i would look at http://www.jegs.com/i/Energy+Suspension/35...1/773400|10071# or the solid but i wouldn't for a daily driver. You will every little movement from the motor. But if you decide to go with solid or the energy ones you MUST replace the transmission mount as well. Jegs has the mounts just have to make sure they are of the correct measurements for your SS. Hope this helps and have fun with your new BEAST!!!!!!!
