  1. 2003, 2500hd, 6.0 : 21,000, runs perfect. As long as I can afford it I will always own one - wish it had more torque on hills. Should have bought a big block.

I do nothing that hanging 1 inch lower is going to put it in harms way... that filter is way out of the way with alot more stuff hanging lower than that. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I've never had a damaged oil filter, but it's most likely done with a towing truck. An oil filter is the weakest link under the engine near the ground. It won't take much to rip it or puncture it. If it does get damaged the engine loses oil while it's running and only after you notice the idiot light will you shut down to save the motor. A larger, protruding filter hardly makes sense if you use synthetic oil, and with the oil life monitor system you should be using synthetic. Few will ever notice the benefit of switching to a larger filter.
  3. the benefit of the original is less likely to be hit and damaged...if using a larger one then carry a spare. if using the smaller one then change more often.
