5.3l Engine For Trucks With Vin# B, T, Or Z.

Recommended Posts

Was wondering what the difference is with the 5.3L engines that came out of vehicles with the VIN#'s B, T, or Z. I have a 2005 1500 Z71 with the VIN# B. Why can't i use an engine that came out of a T or Z vehicle.

The VIN "B" is the aluminum block "High-Output" 5.3 with 310hp,Its RPO code "L33"

The VIN "Z" is the iron block "flex-fuel" 5.3 with 295hp that can run on E85 Ethanol,Its RPO code "L59"

The VIN "T" is the iron block "non" flex-fuel 5.3 with 295hp that CANNOT run on E85,Its RPO code "LM7"

Can I swap out the iron block for the alumin block with out any mods????

You might be able to,although it might need retuned.

I would make sure some of the parts are the same for both.....fuel pump, fuel injectors,O2 sensors, etc.

i think its easier just to swap the whole motor

I thought thats what you meant anyway.

You would still probably need to get it re-tuned,and make sure all the other parts would be the same like I said before (fuel pump, fuel injectors,O2 sensors, etc.)
