Vifa 6-1/2" Coaxial Speaker Review

So in just four years, all of the factory speakers in my mother's 2005 Chevy Silverado CC had decided to stop working full time. Sometime ago, I noticed that Parts Express had bought out several types of Vifa coaxial speakers and so I thought this would be a good opportunity to try out these Vifa A16CG-21-04 6-1/2" Coaxial Speakers w/Audax Tweeters. For only $30 a pair, these turned out to be an excellent buy!

They are a drop-in fit for the front doors; unclip the factory speaker, connect the wiring to the new speaker, and screw/rivet the new speaker to the door panel. Despite being powered by the factory headunit with no other enhancements (amplifier, deadening, etc.) these speakers made a very noticeable overall improvement over the factory speakers. The midbass is much tighter, they don't distort near as badly as the stock speakers do when pushed to their limits. Midrange is much smoother and not extremely overpowering like the factory speakers. Finally, the stock tweeters (now disconnected) are no match for the Audax tweeters either. The highs are more defined and crisp, almost a bit on the bright side. That might be due to the factory headunit's EQ however.

At $60 for two pairs, not much comes close to these IMO. I don't think any <$120 pair of mainstream brand (Pioneer, Kicker, Infinity, Polk, etc.) coaxials could compare to these.

Unfortunately, they are not a drop-in fit for the rear doors. The rears doors are a bit odd, the speakers are mounted to a large plastic bracket that covers a large hole in the door panel. The cutout hole was just slightly too small for the speaker basket, but it was nothing that a Dremel couldn't fix. After that, I then realized that the speaker was slightly too deep and would catch the bracket at the bottom of the window. So now I either have to make some sort of spacer or try a different speaker.

So keep these in mind if your stock speakers kick the bucket and you're not planning on doing any major upgrades. These should fit all of the 99-06 trucks and maybe the 07+ trucks too.
