Best Exhaust For Nnbs? Single Vs. Dual

Recommended Posts

I have an '08 Sierra 1500 with a 5.3L. I installed a DI/DO magnaflow muffler with an x-pipe in the muffler. I had the stock y-pip cut and had dual piping from the cats and a dual exit infront of the right rear wheel. I feel like I've lost bottom end power. I need some input on what setup would be best. Thanks

I have heard that aftermarket exhaust kills your bottom end...that is why I just replaced the original muffler to a flowmaster..sounds sweet and still have the low end torque...

This is true of duals; usually a single exhaust is OK.

My understanding is that unless you have forced induction, there's no real need for duals as these engines do like a little bit of backpressure and dual exhaust eliminates too much of it.

As stated above, no need for true duals unless you are supercharged and shooting for a couple hundred HP over stock. The stock cam in a normally aspirated truck is too anemic to generate sufficient intake and exhaust.
