6.0 Vs 6.2

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I'm in the market for a truck. I've seen some 07 chevy's with some 6.0's and and denali's with 6.2. I really want the denali but I can't seem too find a good deal on them. My question is, how much difference is it in a 6.0 and 6.2? Is it a noticable difference?

With a custom tune, not much.

I've driven many of the 6.2 with 3.42s and quite frankly, I'd put my 6.0 with 4.10's up against it any day (gonna get flamed for that one). Stock.. that's a different story. How do you intend on using it? Thats a better question. No doubt, the 6.2 denali is a beast, but if you can't find one for a good price, then the 6.0 is a good contender especially with a custom tune.

JMO and welcome to the site.

6.2 all the way! Friend has a 2wd ext cab silverado lowered on 22's 4.10's bone stock run a 14.0 1/4and with intake he is running 13.8's now! I would be even faster on some 16 or 17's! My friend 2006 6.0 4.10's 2500 reg cab with tune and intake runs in the 15's ;)

I just intend to use it just for driving. But my uncle has an SS silverado and I just want to be on par or better than him. I really want the 6.2. What year did the 6.2 start coming in regular trucks

This year  You can get a half ton like my friends with 6.2 and all the 3/4 ton goodies under it, like big trans,14 bolt rear with locker and 4.10's and disk brakes. It basically like a 1500hd lol

The 6.2 showed up in 2007 matted with the 6-speed trans for the denali. The 07-09 Vmax (L76 motor) 6.0 will walk all over that S.S. The SS has the LQ9 motor with 345hp and 380tq.. while the L76 motor has 367hp and 380tq. Tuned, I assure you, it will hang with the 6.2 and in the stock form will run all over that SS your uncle has. As mentioned above, you can get the 6.2 from 2010 up in the Silverado and the Sierra trucks and with the NHT you get the 3.73 gear package instead of the 3.42's. That should run over the current AWD denali's too.

If you use www.cars.com and do an advance search for new 2010-up Silverado 1500 or Sierra 1500 and "6.2L" in the key word section, you'll find several.

This will be my first truck ever and I have NO idea about gears. Let say, are gears in the 3s (3.42) more for like highway riding and 4s(4.10) for towing/torque

The higher the number, such as 4.10 the lower the gearing is. the 3.73 or 3.42 are going to be better for highway use. The 6.2L in the 2010 trucks is not available with the 4.10 gears, 3.73 is the lowest gears that you can get. I have the 6.2 with 3.73 gears and it is for sure a beast!!

Something to keep in mind with the gears, is the 6-speed has a lower first gear, and two over drive gears. Having the 2 extra gears over the 4-speeds an advantage and you don't need a rear end gear as low as you did with the 4-speed to make it a towing machine.

3.42's with the 6-speed are similar to a 4-speed with 4.10 gears as I understand it. If you find the 3.73's (NHT package) you'll have a towing beast

For sure 6.2L is a beast you'll love it. I've never driven the 6.0l so not sure the difference but since I've owned my 6.2L I have not been happier.

You're comparing a 2wd 1/2 ton to a 4wd 3/4 ton? And you expect the 6.0 in the 3/4 ton to be close to the 6.2l in the 1/2 ton? Put the 6.0l in the half ton and the 6.2l in the 3/4 ton, and the 1/2 ton will still win.
