Newbie With Po449 On 08 Silverado

Fatboy2V-rod

Question

I have just joined and need help even though I am sure this question has been asked. My 08 silverado 1500 5.3 engine has the code PO449. My code reader will not erase it which I assume is a new protection from the dealer. Truck has 65k miles and has shown the dreaded cash cow check engine light for 5k miles and goes off occasionally. I am coming off 8 months of unemployment and cannot feed the dealer. Please guide me to a fix or what to check as well as part #s and websites to buy them. Thanks so much for your help.

what does your emissions warranty go to ?
Sorry for the late response, I have been moving. I am not sure about the emissions warranty. I got 100K on drive train and 36K on the rest and I have 65 K on the vehicle. I have read some older posts from google that stated that the EC solenoid was a faulty part from gm that should have been recalled. The posts said to replace the part which is mounted near the fuel tankl and the problem would be fixed. However, it also stated that the part was like $36 but the more I read the more it costs and I dont want to buy if if it doesn't fix it. My tags die on the 15th and I have to pass NC inspection before I get a tag. Its a bunch of BS. Any help would be aprecciated.

For me ('07 Tahoe), P0449 was the EVAP Purge Solenoid ana a small vacuum leak right at the solenoid.

P0449

V8 5.3

EVAP Vent Solenoid Control Circuit Fault

The ECM detects the voltage on the EVAP canister vent valve control circuit is between 2.6-4.6 volts when the driver is commanded off,for more than 4 seconds

Probable Cause

1. Open or short circuit condition
2. Poor electrical connection
3. EVAP canister vent valve
4. ECM fault

Vent valves are the most common part on those trucks, followed by the purge valve. Best thing though for an EVAP leak is to have it smoke tested. Its the only way to know for sure what part is causing the leak.
