Change Backup Camera Display From Mirror To Navigation Radio

Recommended Posts

My 2010 GMC Sierra 2500 came with factory backup camera and rear view mirror display. I recently added the OEM navigation radio and had an aftermarket shop do the installation. Everything works perfect except they did not know where the wires were located and which ones to connect / splice in to move the camera display to the nav screen. I've looked at a lot of forums but have not found this exact issue posted. Thanks in advance for any help you have to offer.

i'd like to know as well.. but because I want to go the other direction..

backup camera in the nav screen to me is pointless, I don't look down at my radio when backing up, I spin my ass around and use the rear window and my outside mirrors for the corners, the only help the camera is to me is it allows me to see the tip of the rear bumper so I know how close i am to climbing my truck up the hood of the honda civic behind me.

in the rearview mirror would make more sense to me, because I use it, I don't look down at the nav screen..

Yours is easier. You can get to the camera signals on one of the connectors to your Nav unit. How you do it is up to you. This comes from documentation for the PAC OS4 and is the wire side view of an adaptor that plugs into/onto the brown connector after is pulled from the Nav HU.

interesting..

I know all the guys @ PAC, I've beta tested multiple units for them over the years, from GM to Chrysler to Toyota... I'll give Sam over at PAC a call and see if he can make me an inline connector to intercept and re-route the signal (maintaining an OEM connection without cutting wires).

The wire for the 2010 mirror cam is behind the drivers side kick panel it has 3 wire a white blue and black I think. The video signal wire is the white.

I'm not sure about the 2010 but I would assume it is the same as my 2011. Right above the drivers side kick panel and towards the door opening you will see a connector that has a white, blue and an uninsulated wire (shield). You can tap into the white and blue wires and run it to your nav unit. You will have an image in both the mirror and the nav unit or you can disconnect the connector and tap the wires that are routed behind the kick panel and run to your nav unit and you will have video in the nav unit only.

I realize this is a Sierra forum, but it was the first one I found talking about what I was looking for. Has anybody tried this? I have a 2011 Yukon XL and it came with the backup camera and display in the mirror. The navigation is being added in a week. I dont want to switch it, but if I could have it in both, I wouldnt mind. The mirror makes more since to use, but the nav is a bigger screen. I assume it is not just an RCA cable connection. That would be too easy.

Did you have any luck? I have a 2009 Sierra Denali with factory Nav & backup camera and i want to add a rear view mirror which shows the camera feed all the time, and still keep the camera turning on on the Nav unit when in reverse. Let me know if you had any luck...

Has anyone tried this yet then? Being an electronics guy I'm wondering if the video signal is strong enough to feed 2 monitors (mirror and nav) at the same time or does a signal booster have to be installed.

Forget it, answered this one myself. Wired it in and it is indeed strong enough to provide a good signal to both the mirror and nav screen at the same time.

I have a 2011 Silverrado 3500HD. Factory Rear View Mirror Camera. I just installed a new nav unit that does not have the video feed.

My M-BEC connector on the left side has the following color connectors: Gray, Brown, Blue, blank, blank

My M-Bec connector on the right side has the following color connectors: Gray, Black, Green, Red, blank.

I need to know which connector color is supposed to have the video feed. I need a white and blue wire to be routed to the Nav unit

pin 6 (White), pin 7 (Blue) to the brown connector on back of Nav.

Where is everyone picking off the white and blue wire? The rear camera system comes up to the M-BEC from the rear. The factory

then uses a single cable from the M-BEC to feed either the Rear Mirror or the Nav unit but not both. If you are using factory install, parts,

and you already have a Rear View Mirror Camera, one would replace the M-BEC harness for the mirror and use one to feed the Nav

instead. Both Brand Motino and CubbyCam make the Mirror and Nav M-BEC harness.

I cannot tell which M-BEC connector color is supposed to feed the video signal to mirror or nav.

Where you able to figure out which wire is for the video feed? I also have the feed to the mirror (OEM) but would like to send the signal to the new HU I am installing. Anyone know? A picture would be outstanding. Thx

Check this thread out, it had all the info I needed to get this done on my 12 Silverado. Now this is for if you already have the display in the mirror, and want it displayed on the navi unit as well. I am not sure if it is located there with the factory installed nav unit or goes straight to the nav unit itself.
