Putco Led Tailgate Light Bar

Recommended Posts

I just installed the Putco 60-inch light bar on my truck. It was a great birthday gift from the wife. It looks really nice and I especially like the extra light from the white LED's when I put the truck in reverse.

It came packaged nicely in a stiff cardboard tube with foam spacers to protect the bar. She got it from Stylin' Trucks and they packed it in a sturdy box with bubble wrap.

The whole installation took about 45 minutes. I decised not to use the screw-on mounts and used the provided double-sided tape. I had some extra 3m double-sided tape and put it on two additional spots on the bar for some extra strength. In hindsight, I could have bought a trailer wiring adapter and plugged the 4-pin connector in, but I just tapped off the color-coded trailer harness and plugged into the Putco harness with bullet-type quick disconnects. I also used one of these connectors for the reverse light wire.

This light bar is one of the more expensive ones out there, but it is very high quality and I am happy with it. :P

nice. ive had the plasmaglow fire & ice on for a few years now and its awesome. stylintrucks is a good site too- any problems just ship them the broken one and theyll send you a new one.

and hardiwiring it is better anyway, you can still use a trailer with it for one and the first one i had i had issues when it was just plugged in for some reason- havent had an issue since wiring it directly.

So if I used the 4 pin, does that mean I still have to add a wire for the back up lights? I can't remember if the 4 pin connector has the back up light wire. And if the 4 pin does not have a back up circuit, where would I find it?

Thanks for any help.

No, the 4-pin connector does not have a connection for the back-up lights. I forgot which color wire was for reverse lights, but the wiring diagram on the cover of the 7-pin connector will tell you what pin is for reverse. Then just disconnect the harness from under the bumper and you will see what wire goes to that pin. You will have to remove some of the factory wire loom and tape to get to the wires, but then you can splice in with a wire tap-in squeeze connector.
