G M Tonneau Cover

Recommended Posts

I bought this 2010 Silverado used in Dec and it came with a soft cover on it it has the bow tie near the back of the bed so I guess it is a G M accessory, , in Jan one of the supports broke off at the end of the support and the dealer replaced it then again the other day another support broke at the end, the end has a snap on it and it is the snap that is breaking off, the service manager told me I needed to move the side rails in closer as there was to much play and the rods are bouncing up and down and that is why the ends are breaking, so I adjusted the side clamps and brought them in to the last slot in the adjustment but the rail just went back to where it was so I put duck tape on the ends of the rods to make them fit tighter, then today as I was going down the road I noticed the back of the cover was up so I stopped and put it back down but after a mile it was up again, it never did that before I messed with the rods, now if I go over 50 mph the back of the cover comes up, I will take it back to the dealer as it came on the truck when I bought it so he should fix it, who make this for G M, the hook and loop on the sides really don't hold all that well and are the rods made with snaps on the ends on other Tonneau covers, I really like the soft cover idea but this has got to get better or I may go to a Fold A Cover, which is what my wife has on her Colorado that she uses on her mail route, it is ok but you lose part of the bed with this thing, which I need from time to time. Any ideas thank you Mace

I have an Extang Tuff Tonneau and havent had one problem with it. It doesn't have any snaps just a stiched on lip on the cover that fits into a groove along the rails. Works great, and never comes undone.

Man I'd be choked having to duct tape anything on such an expensive/new vehicle!

Also comes with lifetime warranty.

To the OP, that cover will be covered by the truck's warranty if it was on the original bill of sale and installed before you took delivery of the truck. If it were mine, I would not do any work on it at all, no adjustments either. The dealer is responsible for it completely.

Thanks everyone, I only put duct tape on the ends of the rods so no one can see it, but I agree with doug and it did come with the truck when I bought it in Dec., I don't know if the dealer installed it for the first owner or not but I will have a little talk with the dealer next time I go to town.

GM obviously doesn't make the cover. Someone makes the cover for them. For any future issues (after warranty) you might do a little searching online as well as asking around to see who actually makes the cover so you can get parts direct.

Just my thoughts!

GMC cover on my 14 Sierra Dbl Cab 5.3 Texas Edit. "Thin tin" metallic slapping noise at speed. Thought it was under the truck or coming from the rear seat. Turned out to be the roll-up clips (when not in use) slapping the back of the cab. Elastic tab (now I know why it's there!) put a stop to noise.
