5.3 Hit The Track Again

Recommended Posts

I made it to Edgewater again this past friday night. This time the temperatures were much more reasonable @about 75 degrees for my final pass. The truck managed a new personal best of [email protected] mph. I was much more pleased with the truck this time. I even had to put it in 4wd to keep it from spinning and the rear axle hopping when I took off.

not bad at all.... i swear i remember someone with a 6.2 on here running in the low 15's too.

my 2001 5.3 3.73 ECSB ran a 15.98 as the best time which was very impressed with for such an old truck

Yeah, Last time my truck ran a [email protected]. This time, it was almost 20 degrees cooler and the truck was loving it. I didn't win a single race this time, but I gave an S2000 a run for his money. We were dead even at the 1/8th mile mark, but he was already reeling me in. He won by less than a quarter second. I thought that was pretty good considering the purpose of his car vs my truck...

My goal is to get to about the level of a stock/tuned 6.2 liter truck.

With your 93 performance tune, did you loose or gain any mileage for everyday driving?

My mileage is hard to say at this point since the bulk of the data taken with the truck from the stock tune was when I was still living in Cincinnati and doing most of my driving on the interstate back and forth to home in KY. Now I travel much less, but my fuel mileage tracker sheet has shown virtually no change since the tune when you look at tanks with similar driving patterns.

Now, fast forward a few years and I had a chance to update the truck with a set of catless 1 7/8" Kooks headers and a Roush TVS1900. Truck is pushing 7-8 PSI, and laid down these two passes about a month ago:

I tried working on my launches during the night at the track, but I am still having some issues Justin is working out with timing being pulled sometimes when powerbraking and not others, and also trying to work out the best time to shift out of 4wd to maximize time as the truck will spin the 1/2 shift if it is in 2wd. I think with a good set of tires that I could hook out of the hole I may be able to cut another tenth or two off. But, I couldn't be happier since the truck looks stock (although it may be louder now).

Not bad picking up 2 seconds and 12+ mph! Unfortunately didn't get a video, unless I can find something on Youtube from one of the guys I raced with a go-pro.
