Upload your own POI's to the Advent OGM-1

Recommended Posts

To upload your own Points of Interest, whether it’s all the Red Light cameras or speed traps, or all the House of Pancakes in the United States, I’ve broken down all the steps and even provided a list of red light cameras in the United States to get you started. Here’s how to do it:

  • For instance, download the list of Red Light Cameras and save the file to your hard drive (If you've purchased your OGM-1 from us, PM me and I'll send it to you)
  • Remove the map SD card from your Advent navi system and insert it into a card reader so it’s available on your computer.
  • Download the NavUtil program for the Advent OGM-1 from www.horizonnav.com (choose “Tools” from the dropdopwn list under NAVIGATION SOFTWARE / MAP DATABASE UPDATES, then “NavUtil – Ver. 2.5?). Save the file to your hard drive, unzip it and run “NavUtil.exe”
  • When the program opens, choose “POI Uploader” from the main menu.
  • Select the location of your SD card where it says “Select device”, then click “POI Uploader”:

  • Click “Add” in this menu and locate the previously saved “Red_Light_Camera_us.csv” file and click “open”:

  • On the “Select a Category” menu, click “New”, then name your category “Red Light Cameras” and choose the icon, sound, alert distance and which zoom levels you want the icons to be seen. If you want to be warned of the position of the red light cameras, make sure you specify a sound to be played and at what proximity to the camera you want it to be played so you have warning tone as you’re approaching.

  • Once your options have been finalized, you’ll see this screen showing the file(s) you want to upload, the name you’ve given the category, and the number of POI’s in the file. In this case, we’re uploading 4397 Red Light Camera locations in the U.S.
  • When you highlight the file name, the “Upload” link becomes available. Click “Upload” to transfer the file to your map SD card, then remove the SD card and reinsert it into your navi system.

  • When you explore your navigation system, you will now notice that there are all of the POI’s located on your map in the correct locations and showing the icon(s) you chose:

Has anyone else loaded the camera database? Until I manually added the red light camera category to the Advent, they showed up as "?"on the map. Also, I set a notification sound for 1/8 mile, but nothing happens when I get near one. One final note, it doesn't appear to add them to existing custom POIs, just overwrites them.
