2009 Avalanche OEM Backup Camera Wire Tap Location

Recommended Posts

I am running into an issue trying to find the correct wires to tap into for the backup camera for my OGM-1. I do have the factory backup camera that shows in the rear view mirror. In Walt's tutorial pictures, it shows a blue and a white wire for a 2001 Silverado. I have an 09 Avalanche so I was hoping that it would be the same but I do not think so. I connected to what i thought was the correct wires and it ended up being the passenger rear window. I got that fixed now but am a little concerned on tapping any more wires until I know it is correct. Can anyone help with this?

I am specifically looking for the positive and negative camera wires to connect the spliced RCA to. I already have it run, just need to get the correct wired tapped.

Dustin,

Here's the two schematics for the factory camera system in the 2009 Avalanche. It looks like the wires are stil the same - White and Dark Blue:

BTW: I forgot to add that another location for these wires is at the back of the factory mirror or under the driver's side A pillar trim...

Ok, I am a little nervous because there are two blue wires coming out of the rear view. I see the white one behind the mirror, but when i follow the wires down the a pillar, the white wire disappears and a white/black wire is present. I followed the bunch of wires to the box to the left of the break.

Here is where I believe the wires run to

The wires in the a pillar have the same two blue wires, and one white wire with a black stripe

Behind the mirror, I am guessing the blue and white wire right next to each other are the right ones, but I really don't want to tap into them up there.

I am trying to find a harness that is like the one in the install picture, but there just does not seem to be one.

Easiest way of verifying the correct wires is to take a look at the back of the mirror - pin 6 & 7 per the schematic above. Pin 6 is White and is camera video positive. Pin 7 is Dark Blue and is camera video negative. If you wanted to tap into those wires where that harness dives into the headliner, then you know you are dealing with the correct wires...

I am curious if something like this might work?

http://www.installer.com/item/display_item.php?it=BACKUPCAM&randomhit=Y

Does anybody know how to check if my truck was maybe wired for the backup camera in the dashboard already? I know a lot of chevy vehicles are pre-wired for upgrades.

That part is only for vehicles that had the factory navi installed.

It would be a ton easier to grab the white and blue at the mirror if you can't find them anywhere else. Your pic shows the correct wires - remember, it's pin 6 & 7 (top row, 2nd & 3rd pin in from the end opposite the red/white)

Very simple. On the driver side there is a plastic peace that covers the nut that hold the top of the pillar in place. I popped that off and was able to get to pretty much everything I needed. I did not take it completely off so I can't talk to that, but I don't think you would have to take it completely off anyway to run wires up or down it. I also only took off the driver side pillar, but i am sure the passenger side would be the same.

Hi Guys!

I just got rid of my 04 AV Z71 with 198,000 miles (i bought it new) and picked up a 2009 AV Z71 with 39k miles .

The 09 has a RearV mirror back up cam and a Liscense plate mount camera that looks factory. The camera pic is a little foggy... I want to replace the camera with a tailgate Cam but not sure if it is factory or aftermarket, it looks like it is because its well ran into the factory harness and I dont see any RCA harness, but im not sure howe/if its possible just to replace the camera. I know it was an option in 09 . Any help would be appreciated. I will post pics of the truck soon.

Thanks

KA
