GM Homelink (part 25977643) is NOT really Homelink

Recommended Posts

So I ordered a new console (part 25977643) only to discover after the fact that these are not really homelink. They are made by lear and do not function like homelink. With a true homelink usniversal you can learn from the old opener. With these you have to know where the learn button is (if the gate opener even has one) and program it that way. In my case doesn't work. So thinking about ordering part 10311606(found on ebay for $30) to replace the transmitter. Was wondering if anyone has tried to replace the transmitter only?

I found out about Lear the hard way on my '07 'Hoe. I have a Marantec door opener (compatible with Homelink but not with Lear) with no learn button, so had to purchase an auxilliary receiver from Lear (~25-30 bucks, I think) that wired in parallel with the manual wall button to get things to work. Hinky and hokey, IMO. I solved the problem by giving the truck to my son, but would still be interested to know if a genuine Homelink transmitter can be fitted in place of the Lear.

Found out the same thing with my 07 hoe. My house was built last year and my double door has a liftmaster with the program button....however my single door does not. At least not to my knowledge.....

Let us know how it works out. I am really curious.

With my infiniti, that came with "Homelink" which is X10 compatiable and I used it to control the lights in the house. I order the same overhead console you did when I first got the truck since it didnt have it only to find out that it was the Lear (z-wave compatible). Was ticked since the two are not compatible. If I can swap out that part, that would be great.

Ok got my homelink transmitter (part 10311606) today and it does fit and work ;-) Could not keep it installed because the buttons do not fit (already new that). I already have the new buttons on order (part 10311607), but wanted to try out the transmitter anyway. From what I understand the buttons should match up with the existing holes so when they get here should be good to go! Only modification that I had to make was to shave off a red piece of plastic with a razor blade.

post-112905-0-09372300-1333904990_thumb.jpgI bought a 2012 Silverado about 5 weeks ago and ordered all the parts referenced here and installed them and can't get the transmitter to work.

I have a security gate with a rolling code in my neighborhood, which is why I swapped out the LEar for the Homelink. I never tried the Lear, so maybe I will go back to that just to make sure that works since the instructions are in my owner's manual.

Does anyone know the programming instructions for the Homelink? I tried following the instructions in my girlfriend's cadillac SRX, which we were able to program to open the security gate just fine using the existing remote.

Thanks!

One other detail - the truck did not come with any opener installed. I ordered the whole console w/ lear opener, homelink transmitter from ebay, and the buttons to fit the homelink.

OK I followed the instructions on the homelink site to get it to work with my garage door, but I had to use the 'learn' button. At least this tells me that the unit works, so I'll just keep trying to program the gate opener. To program the Cadillac SRX, we had to push the remote button several times while holding the homelink button down. I'll keep trying that with different buttons.

Its all working! I tried a few more times with the gate opener remote and got it all programmed. Its funny but when I first inquired about this upgrade at the dealership, the guy in the parts department called GM to check and was told that my truck could not accomodate this option. I thought that was strange and then knew they were wrong once I found this forum, although I had a small doubt given that I have a 2012 and who knows maybe they changed something.

I guess the message here is don't necessarily listen to what they tell you at the dealership!
