What did you do with your truck/shop today

That's a damn good deal right there. Can't find any wash that cheap around here.

I normally just hit the automated in-town touchless one. Does a crap job, but at least gets the heavy stuff off. Plus it's convenient - just 2 miles down the road here. Leaves a film though, like all touchless ones do - really shows on a black truck.

The nearest "touch" car wash is 15 miles out. I only hit that one when I'm in the area, which isn't often.

I will need to change my TPS soon too.

This morning sold and programmed a FOB for a 2003 Silverado.

Then finally received that cluster from NewFoundland and refurbished it in blue, I had saved 6 stepper motors for this. Hopefully my motors will be in in the morning so I can fix the 4 waiting on my shelf.

This is how I prep the LEDs to minimize hotspots I grind the lens flat.

Yesterday redid a cluster I had done 6 years ago with the white motors. Truck has since changed hands but I knew it was one of mine because I used to write the kilometers on the white case with a Sharpee. ( Now I apply a sticker ) Truck only had 32000kms more on it but the Tach and Speedo motors had gone bad again, and the bulbs I was using at the time had all turn a chromed black, redid the whole thing in warm white LEDs anyway and the guy was really happy.

Chromed black?

That's the best way I could put it in words. the lens blackens from the inside and looks like chrome on the outside. lamp produces very little light even if filament is still good. Let me try and take a picture up close.

That is an extreme case but the filament metal boils off and deposits on the glass. Therefore the "Chrome Black" description fit well.

By trying to find a cheaper way to replace these GM bulbs I bought 12 volt bulbs not realising at the time that these clusters run at 14+ volts most of the time. The GM replacement are very expensive, that's why I went LED mostly, the other advantage is less heat on the surrounding components.

Seeing how my dealer tried charging me $8 EACH for a tiny rivet, I don't doubt that one bit!

GM should get out of auto making and get into government. It would be a perfect fit ...

Received motors this morning just in time for a Purolator delivery of a cluster or they should maybe be called ''Purelylater''.

Meanwhile did a few FOBs and a cluster repair while waiting!!! One thing about Purolator they are consistently inconsistent or is that inconsistently consistent. They're never on time.

I have no loyalty when it comes to suppliers. Any time I found a good one, they'd go to hell soon afterward when I needed them the most. Now I just jump around the net to whoever has the best deal. Problem with that is, wildly varying delivery windows, anywhere from one day, to 12 days worst case. That is infuriating. Our inept postal service doesn't help that scenario much either. Used to be able to send or receive goods from CA to MA in 3 days flat - always. Could set your watch to it. Now, if your extremely lucky you'll have it in 3, but more than likely anywhere from 4 -12 days.

Well I received the cluster, refurbished it and to my surprise the same truck pick it up 10 minutes after I called. So customer shipped it yesterday and will receive it tomorrow. I'd say that's pretty dang good service. Client is 200 miles away.

Yeah, hard to beat that these days.

Just cleaned my oil catch can. Went to check the fluids and belts - happened to notice it was over half full! That cold air that's been around the past week filled it up in less than 400 miles.

Was -0.3°F here a few days ago. Right now it's 48.5° . Gotta love New England weather!
