What did you do with your truck/shop today

Guess that's the only card we have to fight corrosion on our cars over here in MA - just tell the treehuggers it kills trees, and they'll ban it. :lol:

 

We got caught in a little blizzard on I-40 coming back from Vegas back on New Years Day, 2000 (had a crazy time in Vegas! A single man's paradise, lol). We were stuck in gridlock, because a couple trucks jackknifed trying to climb a small hill there. That's when I noticed the cinders - they had 55 gallon drums along the roadway for road crews to use. We watched a trooper get out of his car, grab a shovel, and start spreading the stuff around the roadway. As lifelong MA residents used to MA cops that never get out of their cruisers unless to issue a giant tax bill, we were amazed. :lol: Everything is so different out there from here.

 

I wish they'd use cinders here. Would save a fortune in auto repairs. Would save me a ton of back breaking, frustrating labor, too. Guess we need to play the environmental card ...

I just rolled over 89k this past Sunday.

 

Been looking at long blocks & transmissions ... :lol:

 

Sad I have more confidence in my 31 year old, 240k mile FoMoCo product than I do this Silverado ...

Now THAT'S clean! Even people we PAY up here don't get down and dirty like that. That's dedication. :thumbs::D

 

The background scenery brings back a ton of memories. I've forgotten the desert smell it's been so long.

 

I'll never forget my first time back in MA after 2 years - I pulled over to take a leak on some backroad, and the smell of the trees was overwhelming. Never even noticed it before, until I had been away from it.

Thank you! She could always be cleaner, but I can't complain.

 

And yes, the smell of the desert is very unique and I have come to really appreciate it. The creosote bushes have a very particular odor when it rains, and we have had a lot of rain this winter. This part of the desert is currently super green and "lush".

You just need to buff your headlights now. lol

 

I'm still doing clusters, repaired 2 Mazda 3 key FOBs yesterday, that was different for a change also did a Cadillac DTS 2008 and a 2003 Jaguar which I forget the number. Also did a FOB for a black on black 2008 Mustang GT California Edition with 22000Kms. ( What a nice car to look at )

When people are looking for my shop they always end up asking my neighbour where I live, he's at 65 and he gets annoyed by it. Well today it's +12°C out so I decided to paint my shop civic number at the entrance of the driveway. It looks pretty much the same on the way in as it does on the way out. lol Looks a little redneck but if it works, they never seem to see the red number on the sentinel post.

I used to wear a fluorescent lime green uniform with silver reflective tape all over it ... and I'd STILL almost get hit at least 5x per shift in the city of Worcester. No wonder they couldn't see your house number. :lol:

 

People become brain-dead the second they get behind the wheel today, I swear ...

 

We hit 70°F here today. 98% of the snow is finally gone. Just a few patches here and there. Amazing how fast the stuff melts with 2 days of mid to upper 60's.

 

 

I got slammed with the warm weather. Had an emergency call on Sunday morning, since the sap started running .. and running HARD. Guy I know had his tank overflowing, then couldn't get his pump started. I flew over there right out of bed, and spent about 45 minutes scraping green goo out of the carburetor. Another few months and the float needle would've completely disintegrated. Wasn't much of it left, but I got it to work for the time being. He was estimating 800 or more gallons of sap just in that one day! Crazy! Gonna be a great year for maple syrup!

 

Then the other day, I tackled 2 chainsaws, a generator, and a ice auger - 2 needed carb cleans, one needed a recoil rope, and one needed an oil change (generator). Then I changed a tube on a 12" dirt bike tire - had to take a tube out of one wheel, and put it in the other. WOW what a pain in the ass! I soaked through my shirt fighting these little bastards. Stiff, old rubber, and a small profile - even with the tire in the drop center, it took everything I had just to get the iron between the tire and rim. Then I get the tube out, and it's the wrong size! Geesh! I used it anyway, since that's what the customer wanted. The second rim surprised me with TWO valve stems! I had to laugh. Someone tore one off the last tube, and just left it there, and used another hole for the new tube ...then tore that one out too. LOL - never know what you'll see around here! :lol:

 

Been picking away at the Marquis as time permits. The 31 year old gasket material has been a BEAR to remove. Today I cleaned up the timing cover in the parts washer, and scraped all the gasket material off it. Installed the new crank seal too. Now I just need to finish scraping the block and front corners of the oil pan, and I'll finally start putting it back together.

 

Washed the truck today. Big mistake! Was totally trashed again after a 20 mile errand run. Still too much salt and snowmelt out there. Saw a bunch of guys out on bikes today. Guess people have money trees growing everywhere in their yards today. I wouldn't take my bike out in that crap if I was paid to! I work too hard for my stuff - I like to keep my bikes the one thing I own that is rust free.
