What did you do with your truck/shop today

Just pulled a cluster out of a 2005 Sierra that isn't shutting itself off and kills the battery inside 3 days. It has a few other problems like dim displays and oil and fuel gauges are sketchy. But I have to find the supply problem first or I'll have to junk it. Just spent 2 hours on it and still haven't found the problem. I've exhausted all of the usual causes so now I have to look for a new cause, I'll go back at it later because I need to give my old eyes a break before I get a headache.

I exchanged emails with Counteract and the seller I bought the Counteract balancing beads from last week since my tires didn't balance out. A+ for customer support from both companies, they must have ended up communicating with each other and decided to send me some more beads. I was sent 12 2oz bags at no cost to me so that was nice. Put in an additional 2oz in each of my tires this morning, this puts me at 8oz total each. Took a short test drive and it's noticeably better but I'll run some more miles and see how it works out. If not then I've got another set of 2oz bags to put in each tire. I also cleaned the door windows and truck mirrors while I waited for 7am to come around so I could run my compressor with out completely pissing off my neighbors.

I've had mixed results with balance powder and balance beads...works sometime and not others.

The one set of Michelin AT/S I had on a 2500 Cummins had 120k miles on them when I traded, and still had 1/3 the tread remaining. I attribute that to the balance beads...that was also the nicest riding truck, not a shimmy, shake, or vibration!

I'm hoping I can come close to shake/shimmy free. First experience with beads. Nothing else I know they have great customer service. I just get tired of having to get my tires balanced so often.

I highly doubt I'll get 120k out of these Michelin Defenders. I didn't get anywhere near that with my previous 2500's tires and they were lighter trucks than this fatty.

In the shop today I finally got that cluster to shut down after ignition power removed, spent at least 4 hours under microscope and finally found a crack in the solder. Re-flowed and it hasn't failed in 100 attempts. Then repaired the dead PRND321 display, I replaced the stepper motors and bulbs with cool white. This is a GFX special edition and looks particularly nice in cool white with the silver backing.

Don't think I made minimum wage on this one, but the guy will be happy to see it work again. That's all that counts for me. My eyes burn and I will probably have plenty of eye crispies in the morning but I'll survive.

AWESOME pics Jay! I miss being out West. Love it out there. It's 180° from this hellhole ...

Finally got my cases of 10w-30 in. Changed the oil, took the sample, and packaged it all up for shipment.

What a pain in the ass just shipping a damn oil sample. 1st time I ever sent one, the lady at the post office freaked out ... "That's hazardous waste!" ...... OMG are you f'ing serious??? Now I just wrap the container up and lie when I drop it off. "Nope! No liquid in here!" I'd have a better chance of hitting the lottery than having that sample spill inside 3 separate containers, a layer of plastic, PLUS absorbent material.

People have lost all common sense today. Society is mentally ill ...

Anyway, at least the oil change is done. All set until 2019 now.

ChevyGuy, I was all excited after getting 31k miles out of my OE Bridgestone Dueller A/Ts. That's the most miles I've EVER got out of a set of tires in my entire driving life. :D

So does my right foot, now I leave 4 marks instead of 2 though. I think I was above 60k on my '06 2500HD with Michelin M/S tires. They were needing to be replaced so I sold the truck :-p Not really, just didn't need 2 trucks. My grandfather used to troll the crap out of people when he and grandma got new trucks. Someone would ask him why he got a new truck "old one needed new wiper blades." I never wonder where I get my smart ass from.

I guess I need to send Michelin another message. Sent them one last weekend asking for an inflation table/chart for my tires and I haven't received a response yet. Door says 65 and 60 for stock tires. I'm running 60 and 50 until I put a load in it and then I'll air up to door specs.

I thought all the LS engines took the same filter? My buddy's 6.2 in his '10 Camaro takes the same filter as my 5.3 in the '07. 15k50 If I remember right.

Shots of Rumple before the oil change? I'm game. :D
