I have been contemplating gettin a sub to round off the sound in the truck. I have the ogm1 currently with factory components up front and some infinity 2 ways in the rear doors. Got some new infinity components on the way to install up front. I would like to get an amp to run the new infinity components and find a type of small subwoofer to run off the same amp. I ran across some kicker 6.5" subs. I wonder if these would have much more bass than the 6.5" door speakers? I dont really want to sacrifice the space in the rear of the cab with the seat folded up. I use it too much to have a big sub box back there so maybe one of these with a ported box tucked in just right could fit the bill?

Edit.... looks like it would have to be a sealed box....

Enclosure Compatibility

Shallow-Mount: Kicker's new CVT series is designed to minimize depth, giving you subwoofer options where standard enclosures don't fit. The vent-less, solid-pole design allows the woofer to be mounted directly against the rear wall of a sealed. The spring-loaded binding posts are mounted parallel to the cone surface to minimize depth. Also the steel Clearance Adapter Plate enables you to cut out part of the back of the enclosure to create more room for the woofer magnet, subtracting the enclosure wall depth from the equation.

Recommended Enclosure: Kicker recommends a sealed enclosure for the 08CVT654. A vented enclosure is not recommended. The enclosure should be filled to 50% with loose poly-fil (polyester fiberfill) stuffing. The panel dimensions for a 0.2 cubic foot compact sealed enclosure (using 1/2" thick MDF) are:

  • Front and Rear Panels: 14" x 14"
  • Top and Bottom Panels: 14" x 2"
  • Side Panels: 12.5" x 2"

If you're concerned they won't put out more bass than the door speakers you shouldn't worry. They rate the frequency response of the speakers all the way down to 25hz which is pretty low. The only thing that I would be concerned about is just how small the cone area is and whether or not its sufficent to move enough air in the cabin of your truck to hear the difference between the mid bass and actual bass.

Have you considered maybe some shallow mount 10" or 12" subs that will fit in a box under that rear seat? If you're considering the 6.5 I think you would be pleasantly surprised with the bass output of the bigger subwoofer. Typically the more cone area you can take advantage of, I would. I've not heard the shallow mount kickers so I can only guess as to how loud they actually get...my concern again would be the amount of air they could move. I've seen some very impressive 8" subwoofers so I'm not counting them out.

subthump.com actually makes custom boxes for our truck that will fit underneath the rear seat. I'm a bit of a basshead so these will not really suffice for me. I may end up sacrificing the cabin space with a box I can remove if I need to :ughdance:

Also, amping the aftermarket speakers you have currently installed will make a bit of difference too.

Here's the thread on my install (which is no where near complete)

After looking at the rear seats and stuff I just do not want to use that space for a sub. Has anyone ever tried the compact amp/sub combos like this one? Heard a few people say it fills out the sound nicely and that is what I am looking for, I do not want a lot of boom boom going on and I dont want it to take up any room in the truck.

Pioneer TS SWX251 - car subwoofer under the rear passenger side seat with a Kicker 500W amp will take care of any bass desires you have. Mount the amp to the back wall of the truck (if it's a crew cab) and you can still fold up the rear seat if needed. amping the front and rear door speakers and the tweeters in the A pillars will make your truck sound like a concert hall.

Like Corey said, go bigger. I actually have 2 ten inch kicker cvx's (4ohm) paired with a Kenwood amp and now I.need to upgrade my battery for headlight dimming lol. But they hit hard! Nothing like 12's or 15's but I've been told you can here them a block away so Im happy and deaf.

I just went out and measured my 07 Crew under seat and it's only 8 inches... all specs say it's almost 12... how does it really fit?
