jester73
Do you need a tuner to do this or can I use my OBD2 reader? The oil consumption is starting to worry me...thanks

BlackZ71Silverado
Yup, a tune is the ONLY way to disable the AFM....
BigBlueLB756
What about the Range plug-in? Disables AFM and leaves no trace on the truck's computer for OnStar to pimp back to GM. They are forum sponsors, so we can crucify them if their claims are false. Can't we?
CKNSLS
Yup, a tune is the ONLY way to disable the AFM.... Justin, I know you have been on the Range Forum, and respectfully, your post is misinformation. To the OP-The Range Technology black box disables the AFM and leaves no trace it was connected to the truck and takes less than a minute to install. http://www.rangetechnology.com/ Edited March 30, 2013 by CKNSLS
BigBlueLB756
Perhaps it was.......back in Nov. '12.
MikeNH
Perhaps it was.......back in Nov. '12. Yeah guys, read the dates. The AFM-disabling Range module didn't exist until like a month ago.

Badass69
Properly...... Remove the intake, heads and lifter valley cover. Replace the cover with a non afm unit( like from a 4.8), remove and trash the afm lifters and replace with normal ones, reassemble and have it tuned. Voila..... no more afm related issues ever.

CKNSLS
4 or 5 months ago when this thread was started The Range was not an option OK-not sure what the dates were. It seems the Range product is ideal for any one who wants to just "turn off" the AFM. It seems the "Tuners" should come out with competitive product that turns off the AFM but doesn't mess around with overwriting the ECM. A tune is all about performance and efficiency in one. No need to come up with a contraption like that Range thing. A tune will get you tge same or better mpg' with torque and HP all in one package. If you are worried about a warranty and ONLY want AFM disabled, get a Range and plug 'er in. Sent from my iPhone4S using Tapatalk

It seems the "Tuners" should come out with competitive product that turns off the AFM but doesn't mess around with overwriting the ECM. We have a patent pending on how we do this. Not saying we'll get it, but it is unique enough to what is out there. Not going to happen. A tune is all about performance and efficiency in one. Believe me, working for tuning companies and fighting warranty and emissions stuff all day is exhausting. Adam
DanJS10
Just bought the V8 Range a few minutes ago and I'm excited to have it in my truck ASAP. Warranty is not an issue with me since it ended in Feb., but longevity of the drivetrain is. Now, I'm not saying the tranny or rear end will blow out if I have some of the torque management stuff removed but why take the risk. For me, all I want is the factory performance WITHOUT AFM. The V8 Range with easily give me what I want, regardless of MPG savings/loss, without spending $400 for a tuner/custom tune, or even down time from shipping off my ECU to a tuner.
