mpg drop new tires installed

I recently installed new nitto terra grapplers 265/75/16 the same size as the firestone transforce that were on before. I noticed my mpgs drop about 2. I am running 93 oct with the bbp economy tune. Would the tires cause this.

The rolling resistance changed. I went from an A/T to a H/T tire and mine went up

Yeah my understanding is those are pretty heavy tires.

Weight and tread pattern matter. A tighter tread pattern on say a highway tire will net better mileage than an all terrain.

The tires i took off were also a/t tires. If the battery is disconnected do you have to reflash the ecm?

No you don't. And the Transforce have a tighter trad than the TerraGrapplers. And i do believer the TerraGrapplers weigh more

I looked at the tread of them. Tread and weight. The Nitto's you have are 3 pounds heavier per tire. so a total of 12 pounds.

Really it affects it that much? I dont lose that type of mpgs pulling my 16' enclsed trailer full of tools.

Im trying to get the best mpgs i can but i need to stay on the road too im down to 7.5 mpgs empty .

I too was a bit surprised when I switched from a AT style tread to a siped Mud tread. Same diameter, same pressure, even the same wheels. I lost 2MPG. Seems like rolling resistance and weight wouldn't make that much difference, but I know it did in my case!

How much heavier were the mud tires? Another thing you have to consider is lug slap and whatnot.
