Transmission Symptom Question

Recommended Posts

When starting from a stop there is a brief clunk (I believe from the transmission). It almost sounds like there is a split second before 1st gear engages, and then it engages with a clunk. What does this indicate? FYI, already changed A and B solenoids. Should I start saving for a new tranny (180k on this truck)? Regular fluid changes have been performed.

You sure it's the tranny? My '00 had something similar to that. It felt like slop in the driveshaft/rear diff though. I never really looked into it, as it didn't happen all the time.

Typically, tranny issues will show up with clutch packing fragments on the dipstick and the oil on the dipstick having a "burnt" smell (color is typically dark brown, instead of red).
