Cracked Dash 2008 Silverado LTZ CC VMax

Recommended Posts

I now have a total of 3 cracks in my dash. One is at the left front corner of the airbag and 2 over the instrument cluster. I see via this forum this is a common issue. So what happens if I'm in a minor wreck and now I have sharp plastic pieces flying through the cab of my truck. My truck has never been off road and is parked in covered parking 90% of the time. What are my options since I am out of warrantee? I own this truck, a 2012 Tahoe LTZ, 2008 Z06 and 2003 Tahoe. I may never buy another GM product. Not to mention the previous sunroof leaks, door handles peeling, mirror won't retract twice now and cruise control not working.

before I had the 2009 Silverado I had a 2005 ford f150... I had to replace 5 window regulators in the first 100k miles because a small ferral at the end of the cable would break ... a obvious .02 cent part. Ford refused to repair after warranty.. even though it was a manufacturing or design effect. so no more fords so we will see about chevy...

OP, seems like I remember a tsb or GM fix of some sort as 07-08s were cracking on the dash in the area you described. Maybe a friendly dealer will recognize it as a gm defect and fix out of warranty. Worth a shot.

I do not have any dash cracks on my '06 Silverado, but the dash surface next to the windshield feels a bit sticky to the touch. Is this normal for the GMT800 series? I just installed one of those velour dash covers.

I have two cracks in my dash after only two years and taking very good care of my truck. They are repairing under warranty but I expect to have it for many more years so how many more times will I have to replace/repair. They said it was from using armor all. I say it is from using cheap plastic.

Just yesterday I noticed a GMT900 Tahoe that had a cracked dash. I thought it was odd for such a recent model to have a cracked dashboard; are the LTZ/Tahoe dashboards made of hard plastic or "soft touch" plastic?

My truck has the hard plastic "utility" dashboard which still looks new, no cracks, fading or peeling, and it hasn't been garaged a day of its life in the 6+ years that I've owned it.

out of curiosity, are u guys using armorall or a similar type product??? the silicone can dry out your plastic and vinyl. just a thought. i generally use only a damp microfibre cloth, although once in a while i will use a meguires or autoglym product. a lot of people love the adams too, although i have not tried it myself.

I had the dash as pictured above in my 09 Sierra. It had developed 2 cracks in it. One above the tach on the drivers side and one above the airbag door on the passenger side. Yes I did use armor all from time to time. When I did find these cracks I did a Google search and it seems this has been a problem since the 2007 models. Also my truck was never garaged during the time I had it either.
