OK, maybe im the only one that doesnt know what these things are for, but what are the black straps hanging from the rear bumper of pickups for? I see them all the time hanging from different locations, and sometimes there is one, other times I see 2, and a couple times I have seen 3 or 4. These straps are usually hanging from company trucks, but I have seen them hanging from unmarked pickups with no logos or DOT numbers.

I would take a picture, but usually the only time I see them is when Im driving so I cant really get a pic.

Can someone tell me what those are for?

Aka grounding strap.

Aka so you dont get shocked when you get out of your vehicle sliding across the seat.

I don't see them in this area. I can touch an electric fence and it not bother me, but I've had some static shocks at the gas pump that plumb hurt!

Static discharge straps.

+1 again.  The welding trucks here in the plant I work in have to have them.  Possibility of gas leaks and sparks from static electricity in a gas refinery don't mix too well.
