Live Post & Review: 2014 Chevrolet Silverado

Recommended Posts

Since the new 2014 K2-based trucks were announced last December, we've been anxiously waiting to drive one on our home turf. Over the next few days, we're excited to announce that we will have the chance to do just that. We're currently sporting a 2014 Silverado LT Crew Cab in our driveway, on loan from Chevrolet.

Instead of driving it for a week and then sharing our thoughts with you afterwards, we're going to use this thread to let you take part in the process. We're going to call it a "Live Review"... and as our first try at this, we'll be sorta making it up as we go along.

Side by side next to Project Sierra. We'll be doing a lot of comparisons between the two.

and we've already completed the "does a 1/2 keg of beer fit in the back of a crew cab?" test.As you can see, it passed.

We're interested in all of your thoughts and requests. What do you want to know? We've got our thoughts, comparisons, photos, and maybe a video or two planned over the next week. Stay tuned!

We'll still have a more formal review after this is all done but sharing the process with you guys will be much more fun.

1: how is the sound system?

2: how does the felt liners hold up?

3: how is the power train, gear shifts, etc?

4: fit and finish, does ac make it to rear of cab?

1- Really great. We're testing the non-bose system and it sounds about as good as our Sierra's Bose equipped system. That said.. bluetooth audio seems to be in mono for some reason. Trying to figure that one out.

2- We still need to do a clean side by side comparison, but the headliner looks and feels exactly the same as what's in our 2011.

3- I would say powertrain is the most improved area of the entire platform. The whole powertrain is crisper and shifts tighter than our Sierra's 5.3L. You can, however, hear an injector tick outside during idle. It is an acceptable drawback of direct-injection, which is the major contributor to the engine's performance and harshness improvements.

4. Fit and finish are noticeably improved. Like I said, we still need to do a good side by side of the two. I'll definitely check on the A/C issue!

Here's the window sticker on our review vehicle

A close up of the gauges. The LCD screen is easy to navigate using steering wheel d-pad controls. I find it easier to use than Ford's system on the current gen F-150.

I actually prefer this center console on the bench seat over the "premium console" on our Sierra. Very function with multiple storage layers. Really cool! We'll go over this more in the future.

Here's the difference between the previous generation key and fob vs the 2014 fob and key. The key cuts are "opposite" of each other. I'll try to cover this in the future. The fobs obviously use the same internals but modified housings. The button locations match up perfectly.

This LT trimmed model has a 110V a/c plug! Absolutely awesome when it comes to charging cell-phones.

1: does the truck have auto up and down pw?

2: wheel well liners, are they carpet? Do they hold up well?

3: how are the seats, do they feel like they will fall apart like gmt 900?

4: do the wipers still shoot windshield washer fluid from the arms?

5: is there noise coming from the leaf springs, my current truck I need to keep lubing the rear contact points or get major creeking.

So the Z71 package is still available in 2WD?

Lame.

Z71 has never been anything meaningful, I can never understand why people get upset with it being used on 2WD trucks. It's not like the badge has any history and considering Chevy once put the SS badge on a Malibu wagon its not like prestige means anything in the first place.

I want to know how much bacon and beef you can haul in the bed. Then a bbq pit. After that use the beer, meat, and bbq to test its tailgating abilities.
