auto dim mirror on SLE Sierra

Recommended Posts

This is my white whale. Had I known what I was getting into, I probably wouldn't have bought this truck.

Some quick background. I bought my last truck, a 2010 Silverado LT, new in 2010. It had a manual dim mirror (the kind with the paddle flipper thing on the bottom of it). This almost drove me to drink. I couldn't believe GM no longer put autodimming mirrors on a truck with a 39k sticker.

Through an amazing amount of persistence on my part, I eventually located the correct mirror on ebay and got it for next to nothing.

I was a very happy person.

I was too stupid to check and see if this truck, a 2014 SLE, had the autodim mirror. It doesn't. It appears to be a completely different mirror (in form factor and connectors) than the last generation, so the ebay mirror I took back off my 2010 isn't an option.

The salesguy I bought the truck from has humored me as much as he can (and he probably thinks the same as some of you might be thinking), but his parts guys are telling him the part isn't available yet. I shudder to think what it will cost when it is available, but I have to find it first.

At any rate, in the immortal words of Marcellus Wallace, I am prepared to scour the earth for this item. If anyone can lend any assistance as far as part numbers, sources, or even meds, I would be much obliged.

LKQ had it on ebay for 57 bucks shipped.

Buttons have different icons on them (but in same spot), everything else looks the same.

Thanks again!

Now send the beer my way.. :D lol

Is this just an 2014 SLE problem? I know my SLT has auto dim

You know what blows my mind? When Top Gear tested the Lexus LFA which sells for like $400,000 I noticed it hat a manual mirror.

Yes, the wiring is different. I know when doing back up cameras I am using the same mirror I have used on the '07-'13 trucks but I have to use a harness adapter. The mirror has to see the ignition source to come on. It also needs to see the reverse signal too so it can shut off the dimming as to aid in backing up. The adapter I use looks like this http://rostra.com/magna-rearsight-universal-automotive-backup-camera-systems-by-rostra.php#2508852

Option code for SLE: (double and crew)

DD8 Mirror, inside rearview auto-dimming
1 - Included and only available with (GAT) All-Terrain Package or (DPN) power camper mirrors.

Note 1 applies to SLE

It' standard on SLT

Doesn't seem available on reg cab

Well that sucks.... So adding the oem dimming mirror to the sle that came without it isn't possible.

I would guess you can do it, you just can't order it 'factory', on SLE, unless you also order All terrain OR power camper mirrors. It is standard on the SLT's.

Since it is orderable under some combinations I would bet it could be installed on your truck as long as you can acquire the parts. Wrecking yard? e-bay?
