Any news on new powertrains

Ecoboost is shit. I'll take a NA V-8 in a truck over a turbo V-6 any day of the week. That will be one tired motor after a few years. I don't care if it's Ford or Chevy I wouldn't buy one...

There's no replacement for displacement...

Thats what a warranty is for and Ive been burning those eco turbos for two years now no issues and no nuclear melt down like all you guys with no knowledge claim.

Anyways forget the banter, the facts are the ecoboost has 45 more horse power and 85lb of torque then the old 5.3, and still has 5more hp and close to 40 more torque than the new one. Say what you want that truck will outperform the chevy anyday, ask anybody that knows anything about anything specially towing which a truck is built for, will tell you that turbod engine will tow circles around the 5.3l. saying you have a V8 doesnt help you from being in the rear view mirror.

But thank you for ignorant response it helped greatly in my shopping.

GM is starting this technology in the cars before they move them up to large cars and eventually trucks. The 5.3 isn't a competitor to the EcoBoost, it is one to the 5.0, That is how GM views it. My 19 year old brother and I have driven EcoBoost F-150's, and we both prefer the 6.0's in the 04's we drive.

Some people just post things that they don't have experience with. The EcoBoost has a nice flat torque curve I'll admit that. I like GM but I will admit there are downfalls and I am rebuilding a 2011 F-150 Lariat with a 5.0. I love the interior of it.

You act like GM is lagging behind yet they've almost always been ahead. In the pre-99 trucks a SBC would run circles around anything Ford offered and in the newer trucks the 5.3 would school that boat anchor 5.4. Only in 2011 did Ford begin to pull ahead and then only by power numbers. The Eco Boost intercooler issues are well documented and I've yet to hear anything concrete about them being fixed and with the 5.0, Mustang guys with mild builds were grenadeing motors so its safe to reason if someone wanted to build a 5.0 truck motor they could face similar problems. Plus neither is actually been proven to be reliable as the miles rack on where as LS engines are nearly bulletproof. Plus like it has been said, it is absurd to compare the premium, limited availability EB to the 5.3 which is available in all trims/configurations. Compare it to the 6.2 for power comparisons.

The 5.0/transmission issues were one of the main reasons I got a GT500 over the regular 5.0L mustang. There were quite a few issues and the chinese made transmissions behind the 5.0L weren't helping. I saw a few threads on the Mustang forums where owners would simply end up swapping in a T-60 six speed transmission.

And some of Ford dealerships were cancelling power-train warranties very quickly once they found out that the 5.0's were tuned.

I just about jumped ship to a Ford truck last year and looked at a ton of 2011,2012 and 2013 Ecoboost, 5.0 and 6.2L trucks and nothing really struck my fancy. I took plenty of trucks on 24 hour test drives but I kept coming back to the GM's.

I should have clarified, GM has been behind since 2011 which is going on 3 model years. Prior to 2011 there would be some good arguments on if they were ahead and if so by how much. But the 5.4 was junk. I have heard about the intercooler 24k on mine no issue, three people I know with them no issues yet. But I guess I have 36k miles and three years for it break. But I don't keep trucks more than 2-4 years, so reliability past 100k is not a thought for me.

I've always been a GM fan, but my mom's lincoln MKZ with the ecoboost flat out hauls ass! and the interior is as nice or nicer than anything GM makes, not to mention has more features.

A buddy also has an EB F-150 and I know it will run circles around my 08 5.3 towing a trailer, Very impressed with the towing on those, not to mention a rear seat with legroom for a 6' tall person.

My company has bought 6 or so EB F-150's for the management, some will be treated well as a normal daily driver, others will be beat on pretty hard running around an active mine site. I am very interested how they hold up, especially this winter with the cold temps and short trips.

IMO to say one truck is completely better than another these days is just crazy, each company has their pluses and problems. Just have to figure out what is important to you and what problems you can put up with.

Ford... haha please. They can't figure out how to make an engine with decent power unless they slap a turbo on it, or use some complicated expensive DOHC setup, or two spark plugs per cylinder.

My neighbors newer navigator just blew its engine at 120000 miles. Never towed or anything. Pretty sad if you ask me. My daily is a '14 mustang 5.0 and it's pretty alarming. I will say fords engines don't compare to GMs ecotec/lt1 comparing power, reliability, and fuel economy.

What's alarming about yours?
