2011 Silverado 5.3l knocking in colder weather? HELP!

Recommended Posts

So this morning i started my truck and it was about 11c out about 51F and the truck was knocking good. You could hear it about 15 feet away. This sound went away once the motor started to warm up. Last time i heard this, the dealer made me upgrade with new piston rings, etc. Said it was under warranty for AFM. Now that was at 40k i got 53k on it now. About a month ago i started using midgrade fuel from shell and the truck drives better. But i was hoping to have this truck for 10 years. I am nervous about this truck out of warranty. It's already has the top block ripped open due to that AFM crap. Anyone know if this "Knocking" is normal? OLM is showing around 60% oil life.

Also dealer wants to do a tranny flush before 60k, says if i do this i get another warranty where this company pays up to 2 grand i think if it goes out of warranty? When should i do a tranny flush, 4wd flush, etc?

My dad's 09 had a terrible knock and we took it to the stealership about 3 times before they figured it out. The problem? On a motor with 120k miles on it, never driven hard, the cam was wiped. Luckily we are very loyal customers of theirs and gave him an extended warranty kind of deal and he only paid half of the 3k bill.

Not sure if this is your problem, hopefully it isnt, but this sounds just like the problem we had with his truck.

Piston slap or a noisy valves are known issues with some trucks. I would suggest a really good synthetic oil to help with this.

What would you recommend, well I guess my truck is one of them. Alrdy had the open heart surgery.

I use Mobil One 10W-30 and Lucas Pure Synthetic on my 2010 GMC Sierra "All Terrain" with the 5.3L. The Lucas stuff is wonderful, helps stabilize the synthetic oil for longer life. Also I use Mobil One because GM has put it in every Corvette since 1991, so I feel its good for my truck. I dont believe you'll be disappointed with this combo!
