My factory style mudflaps showed up today. I set them in place and all are fine except the right rear. The tip from my Corsa rubs on the flap I will have to see if I can move the tip/pipes around a bit to give some room, and if I cant I will just trim the flap a bit.

As a long time G.M. owner and a long time truck driver, Id like to bring to your attention several truck problems you might not be aware of and ISSUE THIS WARNING!. My Truck is a 2015 2500HD Silverado LTZ with a 6.0 liter gas engine 4x4 crew cab with an 8 bed with an ARE cap and with 10,000 miles on it,and dealer install side 6oval side steps. As I understand by my dealer this vehicle has been totally redesign for this year. Now here are for my 2 problems. I took this truck to Trick truck and had them install the Weather Tech mud guards on the front and rear of this vehicle.. Next I went to the local fair grounds and ran across 300 feet of wet grass at about 10mph and deposited over two inches of mud and grass on both running boards all the way back to the back to the rear bumper and half way up the cap. After getting everything cleaned up WE made a run to Sudbury Ontario for Spring break to visit our grand kids this March, About 1600 miles round trip from Gore, VA. The weather In Canada was cold averaging about 17 degrees. Returning home last week we ran through what amounted to slush for 600 miles in 17 degrees weather and from the gas tank back on both side the truck had over ½ inch of ice frozen to both side, almost like driving a frozen Popsicle down the highway with over 1/2 inch of sand & gravel on both running boards just behinf the WEATHER TECH MUD GUARDS.. Now I have driven this route for the past 20 years the last 13 years in a 2001-LT Silverado with mud guards and never seen this problem before. My 1991 Silverado and my 1985GMC pickup would stay reasonable clean on this route also and both had mud guards. Last Monday I return to trick truck and they examined the truck and said that the front stock wheels are outside the mudguards and they could not refund any money, even after I order new larger more expensive mudguards from them. I then Call weather tech and was told that IF the mudguard fasten to your truck they fit and that means you have the correct mudguards for your truck regardless..? They explained that since I didnt buy the item directly from them in Chicago they couldnt make any exchanges or refunds and I was stuck with it or SOL. Trying to explain that I went to one of their recognized dealers here in Virginia didnt help me one bit?

PS-This Vehicle is too high off the ground that my 5wife has a hard time getting into and out safely. The stock running boards from GM are still too far off the ground for her. Any suggestions before she breaks something. Yes Im now carrying a small stool to help her and I cannot find 3lowering kits. Thanks Ed

I have them OEM mud guards on my 1500 and they work great. The AMP research step bars are pricey but, I believe that they do get much closer to the ground than most other steps because they're retractable.

It was worse for me without the weathertechs. I had so much snow built up, it was ridiculous. I have the weathertechs now, they cut down the amount of crap that gets on my steps, but like you its not 100%. But far better than nothing.

I live on dirt and have the same concern as others. 14 GMC reg cab 4wd is what I drive and its white. Factory flaps don't work front or rear. I put weathertechs on and they only work in the rear. The design of the weathertech allows redesign by the owner to make them work as the factory ones do not due to how they're molded. Gator backs are nice and pricey so I didn't get to field test them. It's pretty sad when you go for your first oil change on a $30,000 truck only to have the paint road blasted from the front corner of the box because they can't make something as simple as a mud flap. The Gm regional tech's solution was to add steps. they know its an issue because they put rubberized paint on the bottom of the rocker. The cure is cheaper than the bandaid.

Really liking those Gatorbacks but the price makes my wallet cry.

Edit: I decided to go with the Gatorbacks after all, but went with the ones with a blank chrome piece on the bottom. Since it looks like you can unbolt that piece, I'm going to Plasti Dip them in black and buy my own emblems.

Just got Weathertech brand splash / mud guards installed today. Have not got to test them out yet, but they have a great fit and look very clean. Hope they help keep the salt/snow mix away from the sides of the truck a bit.

Can anyone with the Weathertech mud guards on a GMC 1500 series & stock size tires take a measurement from the bottom edge of the guard to the ground, both front & rear?

Thanks!

Got a used set of GM guards off a guy but dident have all the screws. Would S/S help w rust? I hate making any penetrations at all. We all know that means rust....

Use stainless fasteners, and wouldn't hurt to put a dab of silicone on the fastener or hole when you secure the mud guards. Have done this on all of my past vehicles and no corrosion issues.

I went with the no-drill WeatherTech mud guards on my '15, so far they seem to work well.

Would have been better if they were an inch or so longer.

Modified my front Weathertech mudguards to provide better protection as winter approaches.

By adding a section of a universal mud guard to the Weathertech mudguard I believe there is adequate protection. This additional mudguard, installed with stainless hardware added 4" in length.
