Tires?

What is the current favorite OE sized tire out there? I'm going to be in the market in November before snow flies too hard, and I'd like to find out the current offerings people like. This is a 4wd, 265x70r17 size.

The OE Duravis M700 are worn to the point that, while they still have significant tread; they would not fair well this winter. I hate the Duravis, it rolls hard, handles average, and while it is wearing ok its basically four bands on the tire now.

Looking for a mild all terrain, nothing worse. I had a set of Revo IIs on the last truck, liked them but they rolled hard. I've had BFG ATs, but the set lasted about 4k miles and became over an inch out of round.

What's the current favorite among tires?

Bridgestone Dueler AT's- Nice tire, lasted a while, quiet, had them in 255/70R16

Cooper AT3- A friend has them in 265/70R16, nice tire, not loud

Firestone Destination AT- quiet, decent grip in light mud like a wet dirt road, had them in 265/75/R16 and my current spare which is 265/70R17

You must have had one bad set of BFG AT's!!!! WOW!!!! I have had great luck with 4 different sets myself, and that was without religous rotating. Understand the hesitatio to try them again though!!!

Another tire I like is the Cooper A/T3 as mentioned. Not loud, good traction in all conditions- within reasonable driving!, great tread warranty for an AT tire, 55k miles! Probably the tire I will get again when I figure out what I want to do!!!

Yeah, a set of 315-70R17s at/ko...the further I got, the worse they got...by the time and got to New Mexico, they shook bad. The shop threw them on a balancer and I thought the machine was going to jump off the floor. I had to replace them while I was out on the road. What's worse, BFG left me hanging...the reason I hesitate to get them again.

I like the looks of those AT3s...I will need to look at those hard.

I have about 25000 miles in the last 5 months on a set of AT3s on a 2012 2500hd and am very happy with them. Good wet and mud traction and fairly quiet. With the way they are wearing they should be good for about 50-55k miles.

Jeremy,

What size tires do you have on your '12?

Steve,

After BFG wouldn't stand behind the tires I don't blame you one bit!!! It's sad when you hear of things like that!

Chris

I'm not sure if it was truly a BFG call or the local representative...either way, it was disappointing since I had around $1k in those. What puzzled me was the fact it was all four were bad, not just one...and they were not abused, never offroad, never overloaded, never even bumped a curb.

It seems like the Coopers are the tire that people like...I ran their off brand (Mastercraft) a long time ago because they were a decent value. I have a set of touring Coopers on the wife's car right now, so I know the local shop can get them.

I kept the same size as stock, believe they are the same as your 265/70/17 10 ply. It's a fleet truck so boss won't let us up size or anything.

The mileage I listed earlier is about 80% highway, 20% off road and gravel. If you drive alot of gravel in my experience they will wear a little faster as some gravel types are pretty rough on tires.

I purchased my truck used with almost bald stock size Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor Pro Grade E-range. Replaced the tires a year later with the same ones brand new from tire-rack. They are a little louder around town than expected and stiff due to kevlar reinforcing but are great in snow (50mph in 4hi driving 30 miles of highway with at least 3 inches and no worry at all passing the plows) rain, highway and towing. I dont mud much so cant give an opinion there but I would buy them again. They have maybe 10k but havent worn that I can tell. Some sites rate them for only 30--40k. So far I would buy them again. Lots of confidence in this tire.

Firestone destination MT is what I have currently. I love em! Great in snow and slick roads. As well as gravel, sand, mud , highway. I will be buying another set of these soon. I swore by cooper stt for the longest time but the fstones take the win for me. Just my two cents

Well, check this out...sometimes you get lucky!

Been pushing off buying new tires this winter...truck sits most of the time; and I figured I'd just wait until next fall at this point. I had completely pushed it out of my mind, figured I'd worry about this next fall. Was doing my daily Craigslist surfing, and came across an add for wheels and tires for $600. So I contacted the guy. Turned out they were like new 265x70R17 Cooper ATPs L.R. E that he just bought in January 2014, installed on newer 2500 Dodge wheels. I guess he decided on bigger tires and black wheels for his Sport. So I took a drive and looked at them, brought them home!

I know I can turn the Dodge wheels around for probably $200 ($50/wheel) since I still have a presence in that circle, so I basically picked up a set of Cooper ATPs for $400. I didn't figure I did all that bad. I'll take them to the local place, have them broke down and squirrel them away until next fall.
