New Laptop, suggestions.

Recommended Posts

I definitely need a new laptop, I'm currently using my 6 year old Dell Inspiron 1501 with Windows Vista.
Its been a good computer, I just want a new one, well I need one pretty much.
This one is getting old, wore out, and not much hard drive space at all, also the battery life is very bad.

So, I want a new laptop. With saying that, should I stick to a Dell or get a HP, Lenovo or what?
I rather have Windows 7, I can't stand Windows 8. Even though my Xbox One is based on that.
I rather have a big screen than a small one. I least want 15.5" of screen size. I don't wanna get a Mac,just too confusing to get one. I don't have an iPhone so, I don't have to worry about that.

I pretty much surf the web, store music & photos. Need something at least decent.
Budget wise no more than $700. What do you guys use & recommend?
Thanks in advance!

Very happy with my Dell XPS. The only issue I've had was hard drive failure when it was dropped.

I'd definitely go with 7. I read that's 7's market share has actually increased more than 8's has. It looks like 8 is another windows vista and will probably be replaced soon. I like 7 and there aren't any features in 8 that I want, and there are lots that I don't want.

Really happy with my Gateway NE series laptop I picked up about 9 months ago. It does have Windows 8, but I don't mind that. What is it that you don't like about win 8? Mine cost me about $350 at walmart.

8 is like vista in the way that no one wants it. Lots of unneeded junk.

Nobody wants it because nobody wants to put the effort in and do a little cross training.

All my power users love 8.1 because once you have customized your interface, it is more efficient to get around.

But I suppose its like everything else. Its all subjective.

I just don't like all the box squares.

8.1 should do you a solid, though i use Win 7 and have a mid performance 17in screen acer which has been kick ass so far!

Which model do you have?

cant go wrong with a lenovo

Is that what you have?

Mine is last generation, about a year and a half. My friends all have Dell, Lenovo, or Asus and we have good luck with all of them. I'd look at all your options. Some of the new Lenovos are really nice. I've just always liked Dell because of the hardware layout. A lot of it is personal preference.

I went to Lenovo website & its kinda confusing, which one I want & stuff.

Either gonna get a Dell or Lenovo or Asus. All heard very good from them.

Windows 8 will be vastly altered. When many enterprise groups won't use it you know you have a problem.

I think it's another MicroSoft mistake.

To the OP-any of the major brands will probably work for you. If you plan on keeping it a long time I would suggest an extended warranty.
