instrument cluster

Recommended Posts

Can the instrument cluster be replaced with a used one from a salvage yard without any type of

programing by a dealer ? I know that the mileage would have to be reset ,but otherwise would it

work plug and play style? the truck is a 2003 gmc envoy and the cluster has already been replaced

once and GM customer service says due to age and mileage they cannot cover the cost for a repair

I found one at a salvage yard but gm service rep said he thought that it would have to be

PROGRAMMED for it to wook at all........Help! Wife has no gauges at all and at this point just looking

to get the car back to safe condition to drive . Any Help would alot Thanks Dave

If I recall correctly, when I was thinking of swapping my instrument cluster for one with a tach, all they said I would need to do was have the mileage corrected on the new one. I don't know if the Envoy would be any different, as it is a newer vehicle. I imagine some of the newer cars are more complex in that department. I doubt that a 2003 would need anything other than having the mileage corrected. Sorry I couldn't be of any further help.

If you have steering wheel controld it will need a program. Mileage will have to be programmed as well

I don't have any steering wheel controls, so that must why they told me I would only need the mileage corrected.

Hey guys Thanx alot for the fast replies the wifes goin' crazy about the cluster not working and doesnt want to spend the 500-600 at the dealer so the one I found at the salvage yard for 85 will do just fine ...I think the dealer will reset it for around 100$ I hope

Thanks guys and i'll post my results as far as the install and mileage reflash

Dave :cheers::chevy:

  • 1 year later...

I know this post is old, but dad's 04 silverado had problems where the cluster would randomly die, so we sent it to GM Garage Guys in AZ. They sent it back a couple days later and never had problems again. They are awesome!

Thats who did mine, i happened to get it done while passing through AZ
