4wheeler or side by side?

Recommended Posts

Well, this Summer I'm gonna get a new four-wheeler or side by side. Can't decide on which one I want. I got two currently '02 Honda Foreman 450ES & an '04 Honda Rancher 350. They have been great, very durable and hasn't had a problem out of 'em, except when I get stuck in the mud! haha.

So, my plans are to get a Yamaha Grizzly 700 or a Honda Rincon 700. Which one would be more fun? The Grizzly would be more enjoyable, imo. Greater acceleration, more speed, better 4wd and looks aggressive. The Rincon would be more durable, less problems probably, and more of a controlled bike.

Thought about getting an Kawasaki Brute Force or a Suzuki King Quad, but they just don't appeal to me. Brute Force & Can-am have V-Twins, but just not really interested in them.
So far I prefer Yamaha the most.

Then there is the market thats coming along pretty good is the side by side.
Only one thats really dominating the market right now is the Polaris RZR's,
If I do get one of those, I like the RZR 800.

What do you guys have or what to perfer?
Why you like it & not like about it.
Thanks.

I don't have much to offer for the quads, I ride a Banshee. I have a good friend who has a RZR 800 4 seater and he absolutely loves it, he has a couple small mods and made it street legal. I have ridden in it a couple times and it is fun, just not fast enough for me

UTVs are awesome but there is no way I'd buy one before an atv, if have to have an ATV and a UTV.. And when I do get a UTV I'm going get a can am maverick.. If you haven't driven one I would highly reccomend.

If you going to get an atv, I'd personally go for a Can am outlander/renegade 1000 or a Polaris 850xp.. Before you buy find one to ride.

Try a CanAm, ATV or UTV. They are the best IMO. If you want speed they have it.

I ride Arctic Cats for work and I don't like them. Arctic Cat uses Suzuki powerplants. They don't start very well. I do like Yamahas, seems like they're pretty reliable.

I never rode a Can-Am. They do have a Can-Am store about 40 mins away from me, might check em out.

They're just more expensive.

Selling your old ones?

Keeping the Rancher, that thing is tough. Might sell the Foreman.

I know they're fast, what do you have?

I don't have a personal quad. Guy I know had a Cam Am Outlander 800. Sadly, totaled it out at the dunes. When I rode it I liked how it rode and handled. It felt stable on gravel doing 65. Would have loved to had a dirt road so I could have really opened it up.

The Arctic Cats I ride working make me nervous at 40-45 depending on the road. I'm no speed demon so I was most impressed by how smooth the engine and suspension in the CanAm was.

As far as durability we have a Yamaha 350 that's almost 10, has been rolled countless times, and still starts better hot or cold than any of the Cats. Thing won't give up and it has spent hours and hours idling in 100 degrees spraying thistles and being bashed in pastures.

Arctic cat used suzuki engine parts in their snowmobiles, the atv engines are completely different as are the atvs themselves. The only arctic cat atv that used a suzuki engine was the DVX 400 which was a suzuki Z400 with different plastics. Suzuki and honda atvs are extremely reliable, I have a 2008 King quad 450 with 2000 miles and I've never replaced anything on it other then oil and air filters

To my knowledge Suzuki motors were used as late as 2008. I guess if you're getting a new one it's an AC plant, but as far as I know the design is about the same. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad you're happy with your Zuk. I know lots of people love em.

I just have put tons of hours on the ACs and I don't like em. Electrical issues, CV durability, crappy starting, bad ride on the 700 and 800. Granted I put lots of hard pasture miles, usually with a big spray tank on them. Yeah they're dirt cheap compared to a Can Am.

But unless you're going to load it up and work it hard, I'd spend the money for one you really have fun riding. Get to the dealers and test them all out. Test drives are fun.

My uncle has an '08 Yamaha Grizzly 660, man that thing is fun to drive, so smooth with that IRS. Drives better than both my Hondas. Such a blast to drive. Just another reason I wanna get a Grizzly.

My price range, I'd get an used one, if in real good condition or low miles. Wanna buy brand new though.
No more than $11K.

I'd keep the two you have and get the sxs....... best of both worlds.... Everyone I know who has dumped their older, paid for quads when they bought a sxs has regretted it. and not that they don't like their sxs, they all agree there are times where they would like the quad too. they don't see them as replacing a traditional ATV, it's an all together different vehicle with different uses.

Honda just seems like they don't innovate they have made the same bulletproof bike for years and just improve/refine it...

I agree they make bullet proof well designed products but they are a little dated compared to the other big manufacturers.

The can ams are awesome they ride great and are extremely powerful but I just don't feel like they would hold up well in the long run since they are so high tech with lots of things on it

I thought about the same thing.

Grizzly is the leading vote for me so far. What tires you guys run/use?
