How-To: DIY Extended Cab Storage.

Got an idea from this thread http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/145086-diy-underseat-storage/ and decided to apply it to my GMT-900 ext. cab.

So far has cost me nothing but time. Just used scrap wood around the in-laws shop- I plan I using speaker carpet cover it but until then this will have to do. The crew cab plans on the other thread make it look really simple, the ext. cab is a bit more difficult. More cutting and elevation change. So here we go.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just got the chance to carpet it this weekend. Not bad for my first time carpeting something.

The start

The process, sorry only one picture, glue + camera don't mix well

Blends in better than the pictures show. Got the carpet and the glue off amazon, and the wood was scrap my father-in-law wasn't using. So total cost for this project ended up being about $28. Ill try and make up a good sketch with the dimensions if anyone wants to do this themselves.

Pretty cool! Some black paint would make it blend in very well.

And will it be anchored for safety?

No anchors, it doesn't move at all, and the back seats are always down, so I think it will be ok.

good idea and with carpet on it will be just as good as those over priced GM ones... nice job!

thanks, yeah $200 + for a plastic box just wasn't worth it to me. I can pay that much ad get a box for the bed, but I'm trying to avoid that for now since I hate the bed space they take up. It always feels good when you can do something on your own too. Much more satisfaction than just buying one. Plus the wife is happy that all that stuff isn't constantly falling out from under the seat too.

nice work.

thanks!

Pretty cool idea, I was just throwing stuff under my rear seat but this looks better. Probably heavy enough especially with stuff in it and it appears the rear sear actually kinda holds it in place when its down. I had a nice toolbox in my other truck but it was a long bed, hate to lose 18 inches of bed space in a short bed. It's almost built like subwoofer box but with no top on it and no subs in it except for the divider you put in there so you can separate smaller items.

yeah, never really meant for the small cross member to separate stuff, just put it in for stability, but it works out good for separating smaller stuff.
