Power steering sluggish when first starting suburban

Recommended Posts

New to the forum, new to diy car repair. I have a 2004 Chevy Suburban Z71, 130k miles. Runs and drives great, but when we first start the vehicle, the power steering is non existent until it warms up a little. There is no power steering to the left or right. Once everything warms up it drives fine. I've read some people suggest power steering flush, there is air trapped somewhere, power steering pump replacement, and intermediate gear box replacement. I am doing all repairs myself these days, any help would be greatly appreciated!!

well ,throwing a new pump at it is a start but a guess only(and a good one lol) ,,,,,also if ya change it ,bleed the pump with the wheels off the ground and fill reservoir ,turn steering wheel lock to lock several times ,recheck oil level and repeat till oil level is constant ,fire up truck ,repeat lock to lock and recheck oil

this IS THE ONLY WAY TO BLEED A PUMP PEOPLE !!!!

it cannot aerate the oil unlike if ya fire it up at first ,,,,

you can also pay to have a gauge system hooked up to check pump output but its 10 yrs old so ,,,,,the gearbox doesnt make sense as to the culprit as the steering does work after warm
