GM's March 2014 sales data was released just a few minutes ago and the numbers are not very strong for Silverado year to date but look better when comparing March year to year.

Silverado Sales

March 2014: 42,247

March 2013: 39,561

YTD 2014: 107,757

YTD 2013: 116,649

So, Chevy sold 2,686 MORE trucks in March 2014 compared to March 2013. However, year to date sales are down 8,892. :nonod:

Sierra Sales

March 2014: 16,863

March 2013: 13,817

YTD 2014: 42,213

YTD 2013: 40,796

These numbers work out to GMC selling 3,046 MORE trucks in March 2014 compared to March 2013. Year to date, GMC has sold 1,417 more trucks than last year to date.

Combined Sales

March 2014: 59,110

March 2013: 53,378

YTD 2014: 149,970

YTD 2013: 157,445

What does this all mean?

Combined, General Motors sold 5,732 MORE trucks in March 2014 vs March 2013.

However, year to date in 2014, General Motors has sold 7,475 LESS trucks than in 2013.

IMPORTANT

GM does not break out Light Duty & Heavy Duty in sales figures, so this information is harder to compare. We may be losing numbers in the new HD switch-over, which would mitigate the lower numbers OR they could be as bad as they look. We have no idea. As more automakers put out their numbers, we'll get a better picture if this is a GM problem or an industry problem.

I've attached the sales numbers in PDF format for everyone to see/interpret themselves.

Last few months GM blamed it on the weather as other manufactures seen good sales. Thye forcasted March would be a huge month due to the extra weekend to sell trucks. Time to take a closer look at what the real problem is and fix it.

My guess would be the ridiculous price that a lot of GM guys aren't used to paying. I'm one of them. I always bought the GM trucks because I could get all of the options I wanted, and the truck still cost me less than a comparable Ford or Dodge. The Ford guys just seem to be blind to the brand and are willing to pay anything for that shiny new F-150.

I've paid enough for the last two trucks I've bought new, and I'm not willing to pay anymore. The economy, and everything else just hasn't improved enough for me to be willing to spend that kind of money anymore. If and when I buy again it'll be a nice used truck. I'll look for as long as it takes to get a good deal on one that's in good shape.

  • 3 weeks later...

I bought a 2014 Silverado that has been a total lemon. Wish I had bought the 2013 but they were all sold in the package I wanted by then. My problem all started after the over heating recall and computer reflash. Since then the truck has been possessed. I'm surprised sales are not down even more. I think as more frustrated customers come to light people will think twice and put their hard earned money on another brand.
