GMC/Borla vs Borla Cat Back

Recommended Posts

I have a 2014 Sierra Denali 6.2. So, I am actively researching the difference between a GMC/Borla sold by GM with GM Part # 19303345 and a Cat Back system sold by Borla with a Borla part #.

What I know:

  1. GMC offers a Borla 6.2 system part # 19303345 dual side exit. (They also have dual split rear)
  2. Borla does not offer a system for the 6.2 yet. I called them and they said it will be 7-14 days to get an answer. (Also, said that 2 weeks ago and again yesterday, so who knows.)
  3. My GMC dealer doesn't know the difference between GM/Borla systems and regular Borla. They told me that Borla makes them specifically for GMC trucks and they would not be exactly the same as what you would get if you ordered from Borla direct.
  4. The Borla rep doesn't know the difference either, but mimicked the statement that a system from Borla would not be the same as what they build for GMC.

I was told to call the OE rep for Borla and find out what the difference is. I will post my findings as they come.

In the mean time, does anyone know the difference between a Borla cat back system bought from GMC direct and one bought from Borla direct?

I was thinking that the GM Borla system had the Flapper valve included in their system

You're probably right. Hopefully this gal will call me back and tell me what the differences are.

When I was looking into it, I was told that the only difference the flapper valve that TDT mention already. In the GM Borla exhaust the valve is moved to the front near the joint. They also have a pipe that looks like some of the exhaust gas will bypass the valve depending on flow.

This is correct. I never could get the OE gal to call me back so I kept calling until I got the answers I was looking for. The GM Borla only come in a touring sound level. There are not any other sound options for GM. Obviously Borla has 3 different sound levels. The flapper valve and bypass are also different. The guy I spoke with said he has seen the pictures of both systems and the Borla system will not have either. He also said that the Muffler was different. He didn't know how because he hadn't seen the internals of either muffler yet, but he said the GM muffler was built to GM specs and they are always different than the Borla mufflers.

The Borla video shows different mufflers on the 'touring' vs 'sport' versions.

The GM spec mufflers are round cylinders like the Corsa's of years past and even Magnaflows from previous generations. The "true" Borla mufflers is flat or oval looking (traditional style). Plus the flapper valve on the GM spec.

  • 2 weeks later...

Does anyone have a Borla 140550 system on their truck. I am interested in how it looks and sounds.

I have searched the Internet over for pictures on a truck but have not been able to locate one.

Thanks

Randall

I hoping they make the ATAK for the 6.2s, its the one mod i really want, stock is too quiet to the point where your speed preception is off. I need to know if Im going 80 in a 50 lol

yes theres the gauges but i dont stare at them the whole time. Also there is no govenor on my LTZ hit 125mph-ish and didnt want to push it anymore

The louder exhaust would give me more "sensory" asspects when driving, Im in the left lane so get the f out the way :driving:
