I have a Glock 23, Gen 3 pistol and its been a good pistol so far; I say I have shot an estimated amount of about 500 rounds since my purchase on March 2014. I have put a few mods on it, a Ghost Inc. 3.5 trigger connector bar with a "Self-Defense" springs, and also replaced the stock plastic guide rod with a stainless steel version from Lone Wolf Dist. Since there are rumors that these guns have a problem with the firing pin breech face coming apart after dry firing excessively, could this tarnish the reputation of Glock? Me, myself being a Glock owner am concerned, very concerned. I have decided to reduce the number of times I will dry fire my Glock and how many rounds I shot out of it because this will be my main concealed carry handgun and for that matter, I want it to be ready and dependable. I will carry this until I get a Glock 30sf to take its place.

If you dry fire any firearm regularly you should get snap caps to protect the firing mechanism. As for overall reliability, I don't think you have anything to worry about. I've had mine since 2009 and it's been carried almost daily and I can't even begin to guess the round count. Only changes I've made were adding night sights and installing the extended slide catch.

Glocks are very good and solid handguns. I have a Glock 17 gen 4 i took with me hog hunting in the swamp. Long story short i stabbed this pig then tripped and fell back in the mud half the gun got covered in mud/water. Gave it a quick clean and its good to go.

Plan on getting another glock this summer as well

I've had a 22 as my issued weapon since 99 with no problems. The current is a 4th gen that we got a few years back. I also have a 23 that I've had 4 or 5 years with no complaints either.

Are both your Glocks modified in any way?

It's a Glock do with it what you will, if for some reason it breaks they'll make it right. That's odd that dry firing can break it. I keep hearing people say dry firing is bad but I've never had a problem and most of my manuals say it's fine to do. I only own 1 Glock though so not a Glock expert, or any expert, and it might be the first gun I've ever gotten rid of.

Dry firing is unlikely to damage any modern pistol, the cracked breechface is mostly an urban legand I think. I just use snap caps as a precaution and as a training aid for loading/unloading.

Indeed, it never hurts to do that little bit extra. Yeah almost any modern centerfire pistol can be dry fired. The ones you need to watch out for is the ones with the stupid magazine disconnect safety. Those ones will do damage/break if dry fired improperly, and sometimes properly as well.

I see it as a pointless additional mechanism. On some models it can worsen trigger pull/feel. I'm not a officer, it's not like I'm even remotely likely I'll get in a scuffle to fight for my pistol. If I draw my gun, I'm firing it.

A magazine disconnect is a feature where if the magazine is removed, the gun won't fire. The idea is if an officer gets into a struggle for their weapon, they can eject the mag and render the gun useless.
