onstar fuse location help

Recommended Posts

whats the harm leaving it active, you think the g-men are after you??????

In all seriousness, check the owners manual, its probably labeled in there. I just looked and on my sierra its on the interior driver side fuse panel #25 labeled "INFO/AIRBAG"

This is what it was in previous years. However, not sure if it full disables airbags then...

I'm not that worries about having it enabled but if there was just a simple fuse pull to disable it... I'd do it in a second.

But since fondupot says its a info/air bag fuse i bet GM did that on purpose so if you do pull the fuse to disable onstar, the air bags won't work and you'll have the air bag light on.

Yep GM has incorporated a lot of the modules into a way they cant be deactivated. I don't use XM and on my previous GM vehicles I always unplug the XM module which then pulls XM out of the media source rotation. Cant do that on the 2014's, I bet the OnStar module is the same way now.

OP don't feel bad, I would unplug OnStar as well if I could. Though I do like the android app to control the truck so it is a trade off.

Yes the fuse mentioned will take out SIR. You could unplug the antennas but the Onstar module is buried behind the instrument panel sandwiched between the radio and cd player.

Nope, dealer cant do anything other than flash the modules to stock configuration or with the appropriate update GM sends out.

If you want to disable onstar without actually hurting anything, ie cutting wires and such. I suggest that you, first get your hands on wiring diagrams for the truck and then simply pull out the fuse tray and remove the correct wire from the back of the fuse tray that powers the onstar module. It should be a simple job for someone that knows what they are doing and not too difficult for someone to figure out charged with enough information.

Why do you want it out? I will likely just not pay for it after the free trial.

A lot of people hate the idea of having their every move tracked... one example below...you think this guy ever had onstar.. hell no

If someone has privacy concerns then OnStar ought to be the least of their concerns. Just about everyone these days has a cell phone and I bet a majority of those are smartphones. Couldn't ask for a better way to track people and see what they're up to. Nevermind just using the internet.
