Dealing with SiriusXM Radio

Recommended Posts

I am curious to hear from others who worked out favorable deals with SiriusXM. I know a great many have.

When my complimentary subscription ended 6 mos ago, I called and worked out a deal for a 6 mo term at $30.

Two days ago I get a renewal letter asking to pay like $104 for the next 6 mos. I called the company and told them there was no way I could or would pay that for something that's driven only 3K miles per year and I barely use. I thought we were negotiating to come up with a price between the 2 numbers, but the lady would not budge. I asked if maybe they had some special I could take advantage of and I just got a plain "NO."

Any suggestions? How have others done it? I appreciate any advice / help. Thanks.

Seems I got a pretty good deal where the 4 or 6months was really cheap. I called them on it. Problem was you had to pay for the whole year to get those first few months cheap... I let mine expire and am glad. Too much talking and the same music over and over. Trees and buildings interfere with reception. I dont live in my truck to justify the need either.

Usually when it was time for renewal, they call you and you tell them "No, I'll just cancel" and then they give you a great deal. I'm not sure how many months I have left. I think we bartered last time on a 3 year deal. Longer the term, the better the rate. Anytime you say "Cancel" they slash the rate....like shopping at the Mall Kiosks, Car dealier, newspaper...etc. - never pay retail price...and shoping online, always google for promo codes.

So do you try to haggle a better deal with your power company too? How about your cable TV or satellite TV? I figure I enjoy my Sirius/XM and it's worth every penny.

This directed at me?

>Power Company - No, you have no choice and in USA, we don't consider this a Luxury

>Cable/Satellite - yes, haggle for better deal. I have 3 different choices of suppliers and they are willing to move.

I was given an "introductory offer" of $99 for 12 months when I first got my truck a couple years ago. The next year renewal came in at $180. I called and said for anything more than my $99 I would cancel. They let me keep my old price because I was a "long-term valued customer" . I have to do the same thing each year since then, but so far it has worked. If one sales person says no, call again and to get a different rep and try again. It's worth whatever you are willing to pay, heck it would be worth $180 for me if I had no option to haggle. I know some guys out there have even gotten it for $70/year, good for them if you can get it that low.

Thanks so for. Is it likely if I don't call back, they'll call me? This lady I dealt with was like none of the previous ones. She was iron-willed.

It's like playing poker. They'll stick to full price if they think you're going to stay anyway. Let it expire and they'll be calling or emailing with a better deal.

Yeah, I had no intention of renewing XM after the introductory thing when I bought the pickup. I never listen to it. let is expire and they were emailing me all the time. Wife wanted it for when she drove the pickup, so I bit at a year long deal for about half price. I will probably let it lapse again the next time as well, and repeat the process or not renew at all. It is just one of those things that doesn't mean anything to me. I don't even have it in my commercial truck I drive all week long. Did at one time, but found I was rarely listening to it and it wasn't worth the money.

I have gotten plenty of good deals much like the ones you mentioned after canceling my service for one of my vehicles. They began sending me offers in the mail that just kept getting better. Eventually one came in similar to what you got which was around $30 for six months. I took it. They will budge if you are willing to go without for a little bit. It did take a month or two for the offer to come in the mail though. Once the offer comes in you don't even have to talk to anybody. Go online and enter the code they give you and you are all set. I happen to love SiriusXM and would never go back to regular radio if I could. Between my IPod and SiriusXM I never run out of stuff to listen to. XM 37 Octane is usually my favorite station with some Liquid Metal and some of the pop stuff depending on my mood. If they don't have anything worth listening to then I turn on the Pod. I really don't know why anybody would want to listen to the same five songs all day on regular radio interrupted by a minute long commercial between each one. Then in the morning when I would just rather listen to some tunes on my way to work there are two clowns on the radio talking about useless crap. Just my opinion though, YMMV.

I'm paying $8 a month each for two vehicles, or roughly half price. After the 6-months had run out on the wife's new car, I'd also just picked up my 08 Burb. I told the lady the Burb sits ~27 days a month, but it'd be great to have on road trips, as the Burb is the family vacation vehicle.

To me, it's worth $8 a month per vehicle. I wouldn't pay full price for it. To much DJ chatter between songs. I still have to change stations frequently to avoid some gravelly voiced carnie yelling into my ear.

If push came to shove, I plug a 32-GB memory stick into the wife's car (with 5000+ songs on it), and I burn some MP3 DVDs for my Burb. Really doesn't matter, and I don't feel guilty.

And yes, if I thought it would work, I would haggle with my power company and cable provider. Heck, I like haggling. I'm a professional salesman. I'm well-armed for that sort of thing.

for the last 2 years I've had to haggle but mine came down to about $108 for the year this year the renewal comes up and they said it would increase & I said ok well then I will cancel, I can't afford anything over $100. So they canceled my service...I was shocked...

Anyways, went a month or 2 with no XM then someone calls me and offers $48 for 6 months, I told them I want to do it by the year so I got $96/yr. +/-
