What brand oil do you use?

Recommended Posts

Oh boy, I may be opening a can of worms here...

Ok, 2012 Silverado, bought it back in February, down to about 20% oil life, so I am going to do the first oil change under my ownership. Right at 39,000 miles. I used Royal Purple full synthetic in my Ford, from about 80,000 miles all the way to when I dumped it at 172,000. I just changed the oil in the wife's car, used Mobile 1 as it was on sale. Will see how that goes. I think if I can get Mobile One on sale, I will go with that. RP was getting wicked expensive and I could never find it on sale. I guess I should verify Mobile One is GM approved.

What do you guys use? Not looking to flame anyone, just want to see what others are using. FWIW, I checked the level several times since I bought the truck, it is not using any oil as of right now, so I am happy with that.

Thanks and carry on...

Pennzoil Ultra (the old Ultra) but will start having to use the new Pennzoil Platinum or new Pennzoil Ultra Platinum since they are phasing out the old/original Ultra and it's getting harder and harder to find.

I haven't seen any of the new PUP so I'll probably go with the new PP w/ AC Delco filter.

Pick out one of name brands that you like and go with it. Make sure it is Dexos 1 approved (Mobil 1 is). I think it is important to stick with one brand of oil after you make your decision. I don't go along with "just buy what's on sale".

Currently I'm running Valvoline Next Gen. It's been really good. Not sure what the difference is but my OLM is telling me I'm looking to get over 7k miles on this oil change vs 5k on any other brand I've gotten so far. Oh and I'm too cheap to do synthetic so I have no comparison there.

The oil life monitor has no idea what brand of oil is in the engine. The OLM monitor does not monitor the oil, its monitors driving conditions.
