Larger Tire Size

Recommended Posts

I have a 2014 Silverado Z71 with the 18" wheels (5.3L / 3.42 gears). I am looking to increase the tire size from P265/65r18 to LT305/60/r18. Will this increase have a negative affect on my truck's performance (i.e. Shifting problems, TPMS issues, etc)?

Your truck will not accelerate as quickly, and may not hold 6th gear as easily on hills and windy days. Your MPG will also suffer 2-4 MPG, depending on how aggressive you drive. If you go from a P-rated tire to a 10-ply, E-rated tire, then you may have to reset your TPMS to run a higher PSI. However, your truck will look totally BA compared to stock, and that's worth it, haha.

Thanks for the information guys. I ended up getting a set of BF GOODRICH ALL-TERRAINS LT285/65r18. Really changes the look of the truck! I can feel a very slight power loss but nothing to be upset with. Have the psi at 45 which has not set the TPMS off so far. The loss of mpg's doesn't bother me. I didn't buy the truck for fuel efficiency...lol.....the truck definitely looks like a truck now!

I have a 2010 Silverado Z71 5.3 with 265/65/18. Just received my rc 2" leveling kit, and sent for a K&N cold air intake. I would like to go to ether 285/65/18 or 275/70/18 Cooper AT3. How much mpg will I loose, and will the K&N help?

You will definitely see a loss in mpg's but you'll be happy with the looks. I am not sure how much I lost but is its not too bad. Also, the BFG's I put on refuse to balance....I have been back to discount 3 times due to the tires shaking on the freeway. Have had them spin balanced twice and road force balanced once. Still no improvement. Actually had gotten worse. Going to have them exchanged for the Cooper St Maxx's....305/60r18....BFG's look sweet and are great for low speed, however, freeway driving is horrible.

So I ended up putting a set of Goodyear Duratracs 295/65r18 on the truck....great looking tire and ride is not as stiff! Tires fit without and issues. No lift, no rubbing! These tires are not throwing as many stones either.
